Mets’ trading of David Wright ‘inevitable’?

This season, New York Mets third baseman David Wright is finishing out a deal that he signed in 2006 (though there is an option for 2013). According to the New York Post, Wright is trying to re-establish his value this season, "hoping to capitalize on those nearer Citi Field fences to return to the land of 30 homers, 100 RBIs and a .300 average."

The Post points out that putting up those kinds of numbers again will "make him more likely to be traded either this July or, more probably, after the Mets pick up his $16 million option for 2013."

The paper labels a Wright trade as inevitable, another thing Mets fans can be unhappy about.

The 29-year-old Wright, a five-time All-Star who has twice won both Gold Gloves and Silver Slugger awards, hit .254 last season with 14 homers and 23 doubles in 102 games.
