Ivan Rodriguez spurned Diamondbacks’ interest

US PresswireIvan Rodriguez played in only 44 games for the Washington Nationals last year, the fewest number of games he's played in a season since he entered the league way back in 1991.

CBSSports.com has it that the 40-year-old free agent "has fielded a few inquiries," including from the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he seeks  a job with a chance for real playing time.

In his 21 seasons, Pudge has batted .296 with 311 homers, 572 doubles and 1,332 RBIs. Last year, the 14-time All-Star batted .218 with two homers and 19 RBIs.

In his career, he's played for six teams, won seven Silver Slugger awards and 13 Gold Gloves, and helped the Florida Marlins win a World Series in 2003.

Omar Visqel is also trying to stay on to get 3000 hits

It cant be just me.. But I'd have real interest in him signing with the braves.. but thats going to happen unless we trade Ross for some utility bench help or a low grade prospect... Anyway what would be a great story line I think.. Is that he signs with the Marlins to go back there to back up.. help with the staff and have a chance to get 3000 hits as a Marlin and play in the playoffs.. I know GM's dont operate on nostalgia, but Fans do.. and what better way to ensure that your making a memorable line of history in your new ball park than giving this sure fire HOF a chance to get 3000 in your brand spanking new ball park... that way if the worst happens and your not competing for a championship.. Than at least you get this.. and if you are competing all year.. than you win in both avenues...and I guareentee there are fans out there that would show up wearing the PUDGE jersey's.. and I like the Burhele pudge combo.. alot better for burhele's sake as well... he worked great with PZ in chicago and think the vet would be a better fit for him and zambrano.. makes to much sense to not happen... cant believe it hasnt yet... and on that note.. Call up derek lee as well to back up first base... and have two of the orginal championship guys back for your run

We still have people in Anaheim showing up in Erstad jerseys, it doesn't mean shi - ott.
    • Rudy 2 months ago
Thats because the people who bought erstad jerseys didnt have money to begin with.. Thats why they bought em... It means alot.. to a fan base... alot to the ticket sales... YOUR WRONG SCOTT

Pudge should partake in the ever popular career extender .. DH, and be the emergency 3rd Catcher somewhere. Would love to see him end his career with the Rangers.

Hey Scoop Du Jour, if you are going to write an article about a player and his starts, you must include all his numbers. Ivan Rodriguez has 2,844 hits, 156 hits short for 3,000 hits.................. This is the main reason he wants more playing time..........

The Mutts should him. Give him 2 mil and let him play till he drops. Hell, they have nothing to lose....

The defense is still there that's for sure.

He's already punched his ticket to the Hall. But the best he can hope for at this point is a platoon where he catches about half a slate. Nobody is going to sign him as their full time catcher.

I think he has little left in the tank

As a Dbacks fan, I'd welcome it! He has to be better than Henry Blanco. But if he is expecting real playing time, he should keep looking. Miguel Montero is not warming the bench for a 40 year old guy way way past his prime.

Pudge is one of the greatest catchers of our time. Hope he can retire gracefully.

Good luck finding real playing time at 40+ years old........................

I don't think he necessarly want every day work but he does want a bigger work load then he had last year, but unfortunatly most people will want to hire him as a tutor for their younger catchers.

#$%$ were you doing at 40 years old you stinky pig?
  • The Rover  •  2 months ago
His only chance at real playing time this coming season other than a backup role would be to sit back these next few weeks, wait for a starting catcher to get hurt, and then have his agent contact that team. I like Pudge Jr., but his full time catching days are behind him. Maybe an AL team where he could DH some too would be ideal. Guys always get hurt in spring training, so stranger things have happened.

2003 nine years ago....RETIRE no one is giving a 40 yr old catcher and every day job.
  • JOEY  •  Livonia, Michigan  •  2 months ago
Hasnt been the same player since they started testing for steroids!
  • Mr. Muttly  •  2 months ago
Too bad he traded himself from the Tigers, burning bridges behind him. Other teams saw that, and now it is coming back to hurt him.

    Time to retired???
  • mike  •  Redmond, Washington  •  2 months ago
This guy is not going to get a full time job, unless its with a broken down team. On most teams their not going to even let him be a back up.

Him dising the Snakes is a plus for them, as I think he would do damage to the young pichers.
