Cole Hamels hoping to stick with Phillies?

US PresswirePhiladelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels, the third ace in the team's stacked rotation, will be a free agent at season's end and it doesn't sound as if he's planning to run out of town too quickly.

"I was fortunate enough to be drafted into an organization that is trying to win and obviously has won," Hamels said Monday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "Every day, every year, we seem to get some top players. So that kind of shows the value and the direction the team wants to go. I've just been very fortunate to be a part of it. It's a great organization to play for and I'd love to be part of it."

The 28-year-old Hamels, who was the MVP of the 2008 National League Championship Series and World Series in his third  season with the team, has gone 74-54 with the team. Last season, he was 14-9 with a 2.79 ERA.

"Ever since I've been here, they've been able to do a really good job of keeping the guys that they draft - especially the guys that they like," Hamels said, according to the paper. "I just hope I'm one of those guys that they like."

You can be sure they like him — a lot -- in Philly.

I hate to say it but he will end up with the Dodgers. I wouldn't mind having him but he will be overpaid. His velocity will go down soon.

Cole would look great in the "pinstripes"!!!! cc,pineda, cole, hughes, nova would be a starting rotation to drool about!! Just thinking the "fa" route the best way to make this work but the yanks do have the prospects to make it possible! Not dreaming just hoping that Cashman pulls this one off and gets this top notch pitcher that has not got his due w/the topline pitching staff of the Phils!

Michael --- they no longer have the number one prospect the Phils would want -- Jesus Montero.

The Phils need to lock him up for the rest of his career. This guy is Cliff Lee but 8 years younger.

I'd like to see Cole Hamels stay with the Phils. He came up through the organization, unlike the rest of the rotation.
