Cardinals’ Yadier Molina not talking deal after season’s start

US PresswireSpring training has started and St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina still doesn't have a long-term contract extension signed. Last year, the man Molina considers a big brother, Albert Pujols, had already put an end to any further negotiations till the season was over.

Molina's agent, Melvin Roman, let it be known Tuesday that he and his client aren't planning to negotiate any new deal after baseball's opening day and will then wait till the season ends before re-opening talks with the team, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Once the season gets underway, Molina's "just going to concentrate on the game, play hard to win every game and try to bring another championship to the city." Roman said, according to the paper. "After the season, I'm sure we would probably still discuss things."

Molina batted .305 with 14 homers last season.

Dont thank Albert, thank Cardinals management. They want bargin basement discounts. I cannot believe that they have alot of their fans fooled.

220 million is a basement discount? your a #$%$ idiot because to me thats a lot of money. players make to much as it is.

He said it wasn't about the money? The Cardinals wouldn't be able to do anything if they went as high as the Angels. I guarantee Yadi not only does not sign after this year because Pujols is not there.

Amazing how these players/agents/teams use the 'distraction excuse' for waiting til the end of the season. A player can't multi task with his thoughts? A player's agent can't negotiate so the player can concentrate 110% on playing the game, the post game meal, the bars to go to after the game and the girls he wants to hang out with. What a crock of #$%$

Its tough for a team to sign a catcher long term. Three years the most. Its an injury prone position, though Molina has been durable.

lmao.....how long did it take you to come up with that one? I swear....your old, worn out "cliches" are hilarious. Yeah....I am bothering you Str. You have a problem with that? Where's your backup??? lmao. Bring him out too.

Good for you ~PANCHO~. I'm not really a good Catholic. Maybe its all of the Scotch-Iriish Orange I've inherited. I'm not sure putting ashes on your forehead is going to get you into heaven.

As a diehard Cards fan, I hate to admit this but Yadi is off to Anaheim after this season no matter how much money the Cards throw at him.

What's with the conflicting stories? Read an article yesterday saying that Yadi has no problem discussing contracts during the season.

Come on Guys. Stop jumping on the players. Take a look at the way Cardinals management has handled players as they mature from low paided rookies to better than average to superstar status. Baseball is a business. The Cardinals are in businees to make money. Look back at the history. All the good pitching and position players that were let go in their prime. I want to believe that all of you are smarter than these comments read. Yadi will leave, Adam will leave and so will Allen Craig ( if he couples 2 to 3 more good seasons). The Cardinals are not the Yankess or Red Sox. When our players get good, they will have to go elsewhere to get the pay they deserve. Stop beating up the ball players.

WELL GO PACK YOUR BAGS AND HIT THE ROAD. WE CAN GET BY WITHOUT THE NO TEAM PERSON THAT YOU AND ALBERT HAS BECAME. AS A CARDS FAN FOR MANY YEARS I DON'T CARE IF YOU GO OR STAY,BUT IF YOU WANT THE MONEY YOU BETTER START RUNNING OUT GROUND BALLS AND SUCH.
