Blue Jackets’ Rick Nash ready to be traded?

US PresswireColumbus Blue Jackets left wing Rick Nash isn't the kind of guy who goes in and demands a trade, but he may be sent off to another team before the Feb. 27 trading deadline, according to Sportsnet.ca.

Some friends of Nash tell the site that he "is very unhappy with the way the franchise is going and realizes it will take five more years to rebuild." The 27-year-old, whom the Blue Jackets selected first overall in the 2002 draft, "is now telling people close to him that he would entertain being moved, but still will not be the one who asks for a trade," Sportsnet reports.

The 218-pounder was up for the rookie-of-the-year Calder Trophy back in 2002 and then tied Jarome Iginla and Ilya Kovalchuk for the scoring title the following season with 41 goals. So far this year, he has 17 goals and 17 assists.

I went to a NYR - CBJ game a few years back in Columbus and won a drawing for an autographed Nash jersey. My CBJ friends jokingly didn't think that was right...ironic if he ends up a NYR.

not with that cap hit, besides i think the wings should hold off save the cap space and go for weber in the off season for Lids replacement since he doesnt have much longer and i would rather already have the hole filled when he leaves that having to worry about it then. and how often is it that a player of webers caliber becomes available in a CBA where players sign 12-17 year contracts.... say get him while we can and if the money is still there go for parise afterwards, take him any day over nash.

Sorry David, Nashville doesn't have deep enough pockets for Nash, Suter and Weber. I don't think Columbus will trade Nash and if they do they will certainly not trade him to a division rival. If he does get moved it will likely be to a team like Florida, Toronto, LA or Minnesota

Toronto would love to have him.

I don't know if Columbus is interested in Schenn, Komisarek or Kadri...those are the players Toronto would most likely include in a trade.

dont forget grabolvski would likely be going also. Sadly id rather not ship Kadri at any costs for another winger...

Well, not really an upgrade to go to any of those organzations! If the guy wants a legitimate shot at winning in his career he would veto any move to the teams you list in your post!
Might as well throw the Habs in as well, in which case he will NEVER win a cup!
If he goes at all, one would think he would want to go to a team with a chance of winning in the next few years and you would hope the Jackets brass would see to it after all the years of quietly suffering in Columbus and not complaining (at least publicly!)
Would be great to see him in Canada!

I d say the Rangers might like this dude lol If we get him you can just bring us the Cup no doubt

The price may be too steep. If the CBJ botch this trade...big trouble for them.

I mean what would you give up for this guy. Id definitely let go of dubi zuccarello a pick etc etc we have plenty to offer. Dam he would be an awesome fit. I havea feeling this guy would flourish in new york unlike many other rentals we purchased over the years. This guy is a player first and the bright lights would not affect his game, in fact they would enhance it Im sure

They'd want more than what you suggested. As moronic as Scott Howson is though, he may go for it!!

I really dont want to see Nash or Carter go. Its not a lack of talent on this team but a lack of motivation and hope. Get rid of the GM & president. Get a top line coach and change the culture of loosing. Get the #1 draft pick this year and they will have a hell of a team.

LA would be a good fit for him, They just dont have the cap space unless they trade someone away!

I've been a Jackets fan since the beginning. However, this doesn't suprise me one bit. Hell if I played for them, I would want out too. If Nash does leave you are going to see a lot of Jackets' fans give up on the team. Nash is the only reason a lot of people go to the games in Columbus.

Nash in Toronto no shot, if he wanted to play in Toronto he would of sign with them 2 years ago when he was a free agent and to top it off Nash doesn't want to play for Toronto cause the fans and the media.

Nash will be an oiler this year
  • detroit fan  •  Chesaning, Michigan  •  3 months ago
he wants to come to Detroit where he gets to be on a winning team for a change
  • Goose  •  Flint, Michigan  •  3 months ago
Carter is much more likely to get moved. Not many teams want a 7+ mil a year player that's pretty much a role player on most good teams.
  • Elliot Boyko  •  Saskatoon, Canada  •  3 months ago
Trade to the Oilers they have a bright future and cap space once hemsky is gone
  • David S  •  Ofallon, Missouri  •  3 months ago
Preds...lets get this guy. It will show Sutter and Weber that you are serious and they will resign.
