Peyton Manning and Colts meeting next week

US PresswireNow that Peyton Manning's doctor has cleared him to play next season, his situation with his current employer, the Indianapolis Colts, has gotten a little murkier. The team has till March 8 to decided whether it is going to pay the four-time NFL MVP a $28 million bonus and keep him on the roster or not.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Manning and the team "are expected to meet next week to discuss Manning's future with the team." However, owner Jim Irsay said that the final decision "probably will go into early March" since "it's a serious medical thing."

The Star notes that Manning "has been going through strenuous throwing sessions, most recently Tuesday at the Colts' complex and Thursday at an undisclosed location."

Manning also made it known this week that he has no plans to retire. Whether the Colts let him go or not, Manning surely will want to show the NFL that he's still got a lot left to offer.

In the meantime, he gets to watch his brother, Eli Manning, see if he can win a second Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

I would truly hate for Peyton to get hurt if he continues to play. While I believe he would make an incredible mentor to Luck(and Luck will need one)I think Peyton will get the boot. That being said, I hope ,Oh how I hope that the team that picks Peyton blast the Colts right off the field if they play each other, and I hope that Peyton picks up better than where he left off taking his new team to the playoffs or even the S.B.

I'm in my late 50's now. Peyton was/is my last athletic hero. He's the last one. Through the years there have been, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Elvin Hayes, Bill Walton and Michael Jordan. Bobby Mitchell, Bob Hayes, OJ Simpson {when he played}, and Peyton Manning. Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, Ron Guidry and Mike Mussina. Peyton is the last one standing. These are all guys where I'd actually get nervous before their games. I followed everythng they did. If their team lost a game it bothered me. I'd lose sleep over it. If they were a baseball player I'd run to the paper to look at the boxscore every morning. Same with basketball. With Peyton I'd watch every play of every game he was in. I'd get the tv ready and the soda and chips ready a half hour before the game. Everyone in the house knew to not disturb me when Peyton was on. I loved watching him play football. Loved it. I'm biased but I thought he revolutionized the quarterback position and was the best player ever. My reason is that I never thought the Colts were very good. I didn't even think they were a particularly good, well rounded football team when they were considered to be a good well rounded football team. Their special teams were always horrible. Their defense always bend don't break. Their running attack always powder puff. I never thought Dungy or Caldwell was a Bill Belichek either. Look what happened this year without Peyton?............I'm in my late 50's now as I said. As you get older hero worship comes harder. You don't fall in love with players nearly as easily. I'm a player guy and not a team guy. I follow certain players who happen to play for certain teams. I care about their teams when these particular guys play and when they leave that's it. This is kind of devastating for me. I loved Peyton........I didn't expect this whole thing at all. He'd played every game for 14 years. It kind of came from left field.....................Doesn't sound good though with his arm. Doesn't sound good. Forget all the other stuff. I don't think EVERYBODY is making this up. {The fact he still can't really throw the ball with any authority and has trouble making different types of throws. If you heard this one place you'd say it is hot air but where there is enough smoke there's fire. I pray he's able to come back but I must admit. Doesn't sound too good right now and I'm bummed. Big time.

I think The Colts should Keep Peyton. He's been the best Quarterback,in a long time. He got hurt Playing for them ,and ,they should show the rest of the NFL they still have confendence in him as a team leader.

Peyton has done more than asked and more, if the Colts decide to let him go, oh well, their loss, he has kept them in contention, and it is obvious.......ten years, great year.....one year with out him.........well, you know the story. Would be a great pick up for the 49ers or Dallas. you heard me!!!!!!!!! Immediate contender for a Super Bowl run next year for either team, and they both have the money for him. My choice would be the 49ers. Peyton, do what you do and be blessed!!!!

Give the guy some respite and respect. Indy owes a lot to Peyton. That city used to be a dump without Peyton. If the colts let go peyton, then he needs to move to a team and kick some real irsay butt for the next few years

If Irsay is so dumb to let Peyton go, well then he deserves to get his abb kicked the next few years....biggest mistake he can make. Go Colts....

Manning to Cowboys ... trade Romo to Redskins for 1st round ... so we get to see romo's cry face twice a year ..
    • JJ 3 months ago
Lol!! I don't think the Redskins would trade for Romo. But I can understand why you would want the Cowboys to get rid of him.

what ever sorry we (the redskins) wouldnt give you a first round for tony "ohno" he isnt even worth a 7th rounder! you guys can keep him. as for Manning it seems as if the first runner up for him even against my own wishes would be..... thats right the redsklins so i guess you can continue to see ohnos cry face twice a years still when manning sticks it down ohnos throat! Hail to that!

The apple don't fall far from the tree. Little Isray just like his dad who snuck out of Baltimore in the middle of the night is a snake off the old block.

Get over it! When we were in danger of losing the Colts to L.A. we built them a new stadium. Blame your own city for failing to be competitive with Indy at the time we built them the Hoosier Dome. We didn't let them go and you did. Bottom line. Stop blaming the Irsays. Robert Irsay was a business man and he made what was a no-brainer business decision. We love the Colts as much as you ever did!!!!! Manning is a part of our city like Unitas was for you. I respect the past, but I don't respect these Baltimore fans continuing to whine about it all these years later when you have your awesome Ravens franchise and you should support them!!!!!

What is realy sad is the Pacers having the fourth best record in the NBA and, not getting any headlines of recognition being a realy good team. Did Kravitz make Yahoo Sports mad at us? He does that all the time. For example; he is using Peyton Manning as a story to overshadow the Super Bowl in Indy right now in order to draw some attention from other sports media in order to land another job in a big Market city. Nice ploy Kravitz and I hoe it blows up in your face for acting like you have some inside track on influencing Mr Irsay in making a decision.

There is it Jet fans; Manning was cleared by doctors to play again. Plus Manning made it clear he is not about to retire so you know what this means?????

Hey JETS organization you have next years superbowl shot right now if get PM under contract when the Colts release him.

Why is everyone acting stupid about this? Isray is clear on and high on Oliver Luck taking over next year. So who cannot see the print on the wall. Although Manning is a Franchise QB; Isray is banking the Colts franchise and future on Luck.

So Jets if you do not go after Phillip Rivers (I say get them both) make sure you get Manning---NOW!!! Sanchez will not get the Jets to the Superbowl---Not ever.

Make the move Jets. Manning in Jet green means at least 3 more Superbowl appearances and for sure 1 ring.

    Peyton you idiot, why...just why.
    • Kevin 3 months ago
Because the two doctors who have been caring for him since the surgery (including the surgeon) have said he is medically ok to resume his NFL career. Are you a doctor to question them? Peyton is the smartest player to ever play in the NFL. Do you really think he would be dumb enough to play if he physically couldn't? People should only listen to the facts in these stories and not all the opinions out there. Research the facts, and you will find there is no reason for Peyton not to be the same player he always has been.

I hope they're not going to let him go just so they don't have to pay the $28 million bonus. If the doctors have cleared him to play, keep him, he's still got game.

It'S $28mil. The Guy's name is Irsay. Can you say Baltimore Colts? Enough said.
    • john 3 months ago
It is also a little suspicious that he is "cleared" to play, now that he is due a paycheck, is it not?
    • Kevin 3 months ago
You're an idiot. Peyton had the surgery in September. He has been following the Doctors' instructions during his entire recovery. Most of the stuff out there about Manning during this time is all media created. Jim Irsay has repeatedly said if Manning is ABLE to play he would be a Colt and he will never play for another team. He said last year that Manning deserved to be the highest payed player in league history. Do you really think his opinion has changed that much? He paid Peyton $20 mil this season knowing Peyton may not play, and you think he wouldn't pay him $28 mil TO play?
  • UWnotUcon  •  3 months ago
49ers should forget it because their coach will not let Manning call his own plays.
    Seahawks baby!!!!

it's Joe Montana and Brett Favre all over again. He will be gone. He will give another team two to three good years and then done. Like Brett he needs a cast around him with a D.
