Lakers taking a look at Gilbert Arenas?

US PresswireFree-agent point guard Gilbert Arenas has had a hard few years. From 2006 to December 2009, when he brought guns into the locker room of the Washington Wizards, he appeared in only 47 games due to a variety of injuries. Then he received a 50-game ban for his gun incident and was eventually sent packing to the Orlando Magic. He played 49 games there last season and was then waived via the amnesty clause before this season got underway.

Now he's looking for work and, luckily for him, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking for a point guard. CBSSports.com reports that Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak "is open-minded about attending" the workout that Arenas is planning to have in Los Angeles later this week.

The 30-year-old Arenas, a three-time All-Star, averaged 10.8 points a game last season in the 70 games he played for the Wizards and Magic.

Not sure what the Lakers are waiting for with GA. A injured GA is still better than a finished DF.

we have seen lakers need..some guy can dribble and penetrate the defense..I think arenas can contribute on that..give him a chance to prove it one more time..he's a veteran point guard and must be given credit for what he is......

I think a lot of people are not into him because of tha gun incident, he at least unlike burress shoot himself or others. It was a knockle head thing to do but you have to understand people change for the best most of the times.

    A. Brooks will be a perfect fit . He has a lot to prove . He 's hungry for greatness and respect !!!

that would be the best pickup but id still like to take a chance on G.A. he is currently unemployed and would no doubt put his best foot forward for the remainder of this season. and if they can make the right moves ie JR smith, A Brooks it could mean a ring! think about this lineup A brooks, K Bryant, JR Smith, P Gasol & A Bynum starting with G Arenas, M.W. Peace, Barnes Blake and MCroberts comming off the bench. GA could be the shoot first guy he is used to being and that starting lineup would give a year or to of life back to Kobe! HELLO MITCH let get this done we are not used to loosing to the likes of the clippers or sac, dallas etc. this team makes the western connference our #$%$ once again!

Aaron Brooks is a restricted free agent, so he's probably not an option.

Sessions is a long-run option, while Arenas is a two year option at best....but (if this includes the Lakers eventually getting Howard) either would be a decent pick-up. Brandon Jennings is now looking around, maybe the Lakers should be putting their attention to that.

If they get Arenas, it will be for cheap and most likely only for the rest of the season. The way things are going now, would it really hurt them to try?

Ramon sessions is fools gold...jr smith would be a good pick up but again hes not a point guard or a small forward...arenas is a good option cause you dont have to give up anything. So you can still make a trade for a small forward

I think Arenas is quick fix for the Lakers. They lack in scoring but Gilbert is that offense that can help Kobe at least until other trades begin to happen...Laker Nation be ready because us Laker fans know we here in LA hold championship calibor teams always...The right deal hasnt been presented to us and if it was the commisioner has blocked..But maybe it was for the best since everything always happens for a reason.

I agree the laker arent done yet. They may be old but they still have lots of talent and can still hold for at lest the next 3 years. Till the right deal comes along.

Arenas is not the answer. Hw is nowhere close to the player he once was. i would rather go get Allen Iverson before I get him...

Hurry up n sign him already! Have Daddy Kobe teach son Gilbert the ropes.
  • Eddie  •  Los Angeles, California  •  3 months ago
the man is out of work and is looking for any meal ticket he can get.. I'm sure he'd fit right in with Artest and Matt Barnes.. Kobe seems to like people with thuggish attitudes because they always feel they need to prove something... makes them competitors

He has had a hard few years? Have you looked up his salary? He basically took a 3 year vacation, a very well paid vacation.
This guy deserves no sympathy, to say he had a hard few years is laughable.

You guys gotta look at how he's going to fit in. He's a shoot first guard who doesn't really rack up assists and needs the ball in his hands to be effective. I'd like him off the bench but I wouldn't play him with Kobe.
  • Silent  •  3 months ago
If Gilbert Arenas is healthy, good shooter and a defender against quicker point guards sign him
  • Tony Puentes  •  Sacramento, California  •  3 months ago
TRADE BYNUM NOT PAU, HE IS ON OF THE BEST PF IN THAT POSITION AND HE IS DOING HIS JOB BEING A POARD FOWARD. GET RAMON SESSIONS FOR BLAKE/BARNES AND/OR DRAFT PICK. STOP MAKING KOBE BE "ACTING-POINT GUARD" AND SHOOTING GUARD..... ALSO BRANDON JENNINGS IS SHOPPING AROUND.
  • Rudy  •  San Diego, California  •  3 months ago
My goodness people.. we dont have the money to sign JR SMITH.. We need PG/ PForward help.. and its only going to come from sessions or Arenas.. and any deal for sessions or another pg cant come until March when we can dump McRoberts salary and some of the one yr guys like character, morris, walton ect.. even with the trade exception. a bench of Arenas and than sessions would be what we need... anybody else is gonna cost us to much to even sign... even Aaron Brooks who I would want over JR cause JR is not a PG he is a shooting guard who plays the permiter.. doesnt dish.. and doesnt play D
