Lakers adding Timberwolves’ Michael Beasley?

US PresswireThe Los Angeles Lakers are in second place in the Pacific Division, just behind the Los Angeles Clippers, and in fifth in the Western Conference so the team is said to be looking to improve by the March 15 trading deadline.

ESPN has it that GM Mitch Kupchak has talked to the Minnesota Timberwolves about Michael Beasley. "The Lakers were actually in discussions with Minnesota about a potential trade for Beasley before the season started," the site notes. "If they would have been able to pull off the deal for Chris Paul, there is a good chance that a trade for Beasley would have followed."

Who the Lakers would give up in such a deal remains unclear, the site notes, but Pau Gasol's name hasn't come up.
ESPN also reports that the team could still sign free-agent point guard Gilbert Arenas if it can't land someone like the Cleveland Cavaliers' Ramon Sessions in a trade.

Beasley is averaging 12.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Sessions. 6'3 PG with long arms that can get to the charity stripe.

Funny how after Kobe vents about the uncertainty of Gasol getting traded, another trade rumor arises...saying Gasol HAS NOT been mentioned in the trade.

I don't know who the Lakers will give up to nab Beasley..but if they can get him I'd do it ASAP...You put a scorer like Beasley with Kobe and learn work ethic..then the Lakers will be scary. T'Wolves have a log jam at the SF/PF spots so it's no secret somebody will have to go..whether it was Beasley, Webster, or Wes Johnson, somebody was on their way out this year...

Kobe would actually need to pass the ball. He is averaging more shots taken than Gasol and Bynum combined for the fourth straight year.

yeah this deal would be a ego clash

Lakers should go ahead and get this deal done. They're already running out of time in terms of filling their main holes on the roster (SF being one of them). T-Wolves really want to move Beasley because they feel Derrick Williams is a better fit for them. Beasley at the very least would give the Lakers slightly above average production from the SF spot and he's still so very young that his prime years remain ahead of him. Lakers would also have a fairly sizeable and deeply talented frontcourt in him, Gasol, and Bynum. If the Lakers can also somehow swing a deal to get the much underrated Ramon Sessions out from under Dan Gilbert's thumb and make him their starting PG, they'll be back in business for this season and perhaps beyond that.

People don't realize that the Laker franchise haven't had a star point guard since Magic. They don't necessarily need a star point guard such as Dwill or Rajon but one that is younger and more athletic than Fish and Blake. But if you can get Dwill or Rajon then why not!

If the Lakers can get Beasley for a 1st rounder, it makes a ton of sense. They would get a young guy with potential for a pick that is at best a 50/50 crapshoot. They would be getting an average SF to replace the worst starting SF in the league. Then if they could get Sessions, they'd have upgraded the two positions which are the weakest in the league and replaced them with average players. They'd go from playing 3 on 5 to 5 on 5 and they'd be a serious threat for a championship again.

The wolves won't give Beasley with just a pick...
    • Connor 2 months ago
exactly right david im excited for those 2 trades
    • abcd 2 months ago
@MckittricT Yes they would. But the original deal was that the lakers use the trade exception they gained from the Odom trade. Wolves want flexibility for a player that can't get much playing time anyway.

Are we forgetting that the Lakers have the exception cash they got in the deal for L.O. They have 9 mil to use as a bargaining tool, that I'm sure the Timberwolves would love to have in exchange for Beezer. I would love to see them swing a deal for Beasley and Ridnour. That would immediately fill their most pressing needs, and, negate the need to trade either Gasol or Bynum. Imagine a starting five of Ridnour, Kobe, Beasley, Gasol, and Bynum....Sounds good to me....

Agree...That starting five is music to my ears...

Hmm...Beasley starting with Barnes coming off the bench...I can see the Lakers being a real threat in the West again

And "Amnesty" MWP immediately! He's a cancer on the team & sucks in every aspect!

      MWP still plays good defense

And this helps our PG problem how?? Throw in Rubio then maybe

If the Lakers can trade for Beasley and Sessions and keep their core group of players then this team will be right back in the mix for a Championship. If they can't land Sessions then they need to just stick with Blake and Fisher cause adding Arenas would be a even worse move then them giving Odom away for nothing.

very..very very... simple,.....when my kids screwed up my company............i fired them......nuff said...

He's earning 6-7 million a year. This is probably a salary dump for Minnesota. They could get a first round draft pick. Lakers would have to trade or amnesty Artest.

If the Lakers manage to pick up Sessions and Beasley they'll be competing deep into the playoffs.

Giving up Gasol is dumb. Gasol and Bynum work great together. Without Gasol, Bynum may not be as effective.

The biggest problem on the Lakers is the point guard position. All they need is an energetic, physical point guard. Sessions is more than good enough as he plays right now..

Derek Fisher is not fast enough anymore. Steve Blake seems smaller that his listed weight and height. D-Fish should be coming off the bench. Steve Blake can't win the starting job from Fisher.

    Starting lineup...
    Bryant
    Sessions
    Bynum
    Gasol
    Beasley

    looks good... solid.

Man I would love B-Eazy in the Lakers. He can start and give the Lakers much needed scoring or can come off the bench and play small foward or power foward. The Lakers do not need need to trade away Gasol if they add Sessions and Beasley they can win the WCF. And see what happens in the finals
