Andrew Bynum getting injection during All-Star weekend

US PresswireLos Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum will start off his All-Star weekend getting an injection of Synvisc, which serves as a lubricant, into his right knee, according to ESPN Los Angeles.

Two summers ago, Bynum had surgery to help fix up torn cartilage and the 24-year-old wears a brace on the knee during games these days, the site notes.

Bynum will sit out practice Saturday for the All-Star game while recuperating and then start the game on Sunday, according to ESPN.

Bynum has played in 30 of the Lakers' 34 games this season, averaging 16.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per game, both career highs.

And this is why the Magic, will not trade Howard for Bynum straight up.
He may be a good solid player with a very high upside,
but he may also be one injury away from his career's end.

Will be interesting though to see where they end up trading howard to. Bynum has the highest ceiling of any player rumored to be traded to orlando, but also has his obvious injury problems.

every player in the NBA is 1 injury away from ending their careers.

lets see bynum play a full season then you can talk like that. till now its basically fact bynum going to miss 20% or more of the season

Well what a waste of a roster spot for the All-Star Game, with all the trade rumors around Pau Gasol the Lakers should really look to unload Bynum before his knees give out again and keep Gasol at all cost.

If you need a lubricant injection in your knee just to play the All Star game, which means nothing, it stands to reason that you probably should just sit the stupid game out & let your knee rest.

i think he'll start the 1st few minutes in the 1st half n then sit out the rest of the 1st half, n then repeat again for the second half...

Bynum is 1 more knee injury away from becoming this generations version of Sam Bowie! They should trade him while he can still walk! Hasn't played a full 82 game season yet injury free.

It was already reported in the LA and Orlando papers that Howard doesn't want to play with Kobe in LA anyway. Kobe didn't outright deny the story. If Howard wouldn't agree to extend with Lakers, then Bynum is stuck in LA until his knees give out again.

Thats a lie. Howard has actually said he would play with kobe and would prefer to be in LA. However when you have Bynum the second best center in thegame, why give him up for Dwight howard?

      he don't wanna follow shaq

So he needs lubrication in his knee to run up and down the court in the all star game? Yeah, I'm sure so does everyone else haha. The games going to be like 140-138 again, Besdies bynum will be playing around 20-25 minutes tops, if that.

Most of his injuries involved his teammates. Like last night when he bump Gasol for a rebound.

I think lakers should think twice if they plan to trade gasol instead of bynum. With a knee injury that bynum nursing, it makes him unworthy for long term contract. It can get worse anytime or even worst. Lakers should cling on gasol, he may be soft but efficient which proved useful in the seasons when they clinched two championships. He is no different now, maybe he need some motivation to work his #$%$ off on the court.

and buss doenst want to get rid of him why?!!! he's young and he could develop but his history only has him getting injured and underperforming his potential on Most nights. this dilema reminds me of portlands decision to keep on signing oden or the rocked signing yao ming, it's sad that after evidence points to no maraculous, break out, healthy season the franschise still hopes and dreams

Someone inform allstar Dwight Howard not to worry about any perceived Shaq comparisons. It's all gobbledegook anyway. Don't mean diddlysquat ok? Just be your own man, Dwight. Come to the Lakers. Come to Hollywood. The land of glitter. Team with the deadly Black Mamba and Gasol. Win a ton of trophies. They know how to do it.

I think everyone's misunderstanding the reasons why he's getting the injection. It seems like he scheduled this procedure before he was selected as an All-Star, and who would turn down his first All-Star selection? His past injuries weren't preventable. Bad luck doesn't equate to injury-prone. Every athlete is always an injury away from ending a career, but if anything, this injection and proper knee maintenance like he's practicing make him less vulnerable to injury.

I say keep Bynum. He's already an established star in LA, and once Kobe retires he'll have free reign to dominate as much as Dwight Howard does all alone in Orlando.

I say call Orlando's bluff and not do anything by trade dead line. Let Dwight walk, then trade Bynum during the off season to get a nice pure point guard with some draft picks and we are set. Since Golden state needs a big man, we can probably steal monta and Klay Thompson and let Monta run point with us. With Odom's 9m trade exemption we can get Howard and pay him 20m and Monta pay him 10m and give him a raise when we get rid of Artest, Walton and Fisher's contract. Then after a few more years when Kobe is done we can have more money since we are paying him 28m a year.

Warriors aren't going to trade Monta AND Thompson. Udoh would be a more likely throw in.

Steal? #$%$ fakers your team is done.

Bynum is a chump. Guy has no class, remember when he got ejected last year in the playoffs for the cheap shot on J.J. Barea against the Mavs, then he took his jersey off before leaving the floor. What an #$%$ No team wants him or his busted knee. Bynum = #$%$
  • waynev  •  2 months ago
Bybum is a lazy broken down 24 year old. This guy has some moves, but I doubt he will be playing 4 years from now, he walks down the court like a 50 year old man? How the hell did he get voted to the All-Star game? I wouldn't want him on my team.
