Back in 2010, Gabriel Gonzaga lost his confidence and his passion. He got both back tonight in Rio de Janeiro.

The former heavyweight title contender schooled hotshot prospect Edinaldo Oliveira in less than four minutes. Gonzaga made it look easy as he took the 6-foot-7 Oliveira to the ground and eventually locked on a nasty rear-naked choke to force the tap at 3:22 of the first round.

"It felt great to be back in the Octagon. My time away from the UFC was good for me. I dealt with some personal business in my life and came back refocused. Before, I was training well, but my mind just wasn't in it. Now, I'm back, I feel great. I'm focused and I showed that," said Gonzaga.

Gonzaga (13-6, 8-5 UFC) last fought with the promotion in Oct. of 2010, then abruptly retired. He had a comeback fight with a smaller promotion in October of 2011.

After starting off 4-0 with the promotion, he rose near the top of the division, but then lost badly to UFC heavyweight champ Randy Couture at UFC 74. After that fight, Gonzaga looked tentative and wilted in big moments going just 3-4.

Oliveira (13-2, 0-1 UFC) was way in over his head tonight. He looked to small for the weight class and his takedown defense was shaky. Once Gonzaga got him to the ground, Oliveira was easy prey.

This was going to be a tough night for Sam Stout. He was facing Brazilian Thiago Tavares on his home turf and doing so without his trainer Shawn Tompkins, who passed away last August.

    • UFC 142 picks, Vegas-style: Bettors pounding Vitor Belfort

Belfort and Johnson square off at UFC 142 weigh in (Getty)

The debate has raged all day - how will Anthony Johnson's weight snafu affect his fight against Vitor Belfort? The pulse in the betting world is that Johnson is in big trouble at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro.

[Don't miss the action: Watch UFC 142 live on Y! Sports]

Belfort's number has jumped 40 cents since it was announced Johnson couldn't make the 186-pound weight limit at middleweight. He actually stepped on the scales yesterday in Rio de Janeiro at 197 pounds. A stipulation was also put in place that Johnson couldn't replenish his body beyond 205 pounds for another weigh-in earlier today.

If you liked Aldo early in the week at minus-220, you missed your chance. There's been heavy fight day steam on Aldo pushing him to minus-275.

    • Dana White's latest vlog does a nice a job of showing behind-the-scenes coverage of how the Anthony Johnson weigh-in miss went down.

Vitor Belfort arrives at the arena (2:45 mark) and is blown away by the fact that Johnson wasn't going to make weight. He explains that his cut was tough. As he thinks about what to do, Belfort begins to intensely chew on a towel full of ice to get a little water into his system.

White gives him the option of not making weight either, but then he wouldn't get 20 percent of Johnson's purse. His nutrition coach Mike Dolce is brought into help make a decision and says Vitor is going to be professional and do his part.

Later in the video, Johnson is informed on stage that he has to weigh in again on Saturday and be under 205 pounds. The exchange between White and the fighter is cordial.

    • Johnson's weighs 197, but still looks fit (Getty)

What the heck just happened? Insert some stronger language and that had to be Dana White's initial reaction to Anthony Johnson's huge gaffe at the UFC 142 weigh-in.

Johnson, a massive 170-pounder, took this fight at 185 pounds months ago. Thought by some to be the smaller fighter against Vitor Belfort, Johnson clocked in at a shocking 197 pounds! The backstory was that Johnson got as low as 187.5 and doctors told him to stop.

UPDATE: Here's the medical explanation why Johnson stopped cutting weight at 187.5 pounds.

[Don't miss the action: Watch UFC 142 live on Y! Sports]

White was alerted to the issue earlier in the day and announced right around 4 p.m. ET that Johnson wasn't going to make weight.

"Rumble Johnson is not on weight today. And when I say he's not on weight he's way off weight," White said on FX.

White rightly flips out when fighters miss weight by three or four pounds. This was 11 pounds (186 is allowable middleweight limit)!

"As a fighter, you are a professional. You are contracted to come in at a certain weight. This is not the first time this has happened with Johnson. He moved up to 185 pounds so this wouldn't happen to him at 170 pounds, and here we are in the same position again. [Belfort] came in like a professional on weight, and Anthony Johnson comes in as a total unprofessional, way overweight."

The next step to officially making the fight tomorrow is also mind-blowing. Fighters like to rehydrate and replenish their body after the weigh-in. Johnson has to watch his intake. If he balloons higher than 205, Belfort said he won't take the fight.

"The stipulation is, Vitor does not want him to weigh more than 205 pounds by tomorrow at like 2 o'clock in the afternoon," White said. "So we'll see how this thing plays out. He'll weigh in today and have to weigh in tomorrow."

Johnson was making his debut at middleweight after waging his previous 10 UFC fights down at welterweight. The 27-year-old will be fine 20 percent of his show purse. If he loses badly, he may have to worry about a pink slip arriving soon from the promotion. Let's hope there was some legitimate excuse that can excuse Johnson's big mistake.

    • UFC 142: Mike Pyle is fired up to fight in front of hostile crowd

Mike Pyle has fought all over the world, but even he admits tomorrow night at UFC 142, Rio de Janeiro could be unlike anything he's ever seen.

"We're fighting and we have to fight other countryman on their soil. That makes it fun. Get out there in some hostile territory," Pyle told ESPN1100/98.9 FM. "It's kind of different. You don't get booed and looked at in strange ways at home. It's cool. Makes me feel like a super villain."

Pyle won't be walking through the Rio crowd with complete unfamiliarity. He cornerd Forrest Griffin back at UFC 134 and saw how intense the Brazilians were that night.

    • Is Anthony Johnson too small for middleweight?

Johnson and Belfort face to face at UFC 142 press conference (Getty)

A 15-pound jump is huge in the fight world, unless you're a guy who walks around 40 pounds heavier than your weight class.

This weekend at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Johnson is moving from 170 pounds to middleweight against veteran Vitor Belfort.

Belfort is no small 185 pounder. He spent most of his career at light heavyweight before the drop down. Watching the UFC 142 prefight conference today and judging by some photos it was hard to tell if Johnson is making a mistake from a size standpoint.

George Garcia from MMAjunkie radio thought Johnson looked undersized.

Looking at the photo above, he might be right, but then in the photo below Johnson looks like the bigger fighter.

Johnson and Belfort side by side at UFC 142 press conference (Getty)

In the end, it probably won't matter unless the fight features plenty of clinch work. Johnson says Belfort won't be able to handle his onslaught on the feet.

    • After three fights in the UFC, Barboza says he’s in the 155-pound title mix

Barboza leaps after Njokuani victory (Getty)Edson Barboza may be short on significant wins, but that isn't holding him back from saying he's a contender for the UFC lightweight title.

Barboza looks for fourth win with the promotion Saturday night against Terry Etim.

He's looking to build on dominant wins over Mike Lullo and Ross Pearson, and a tightly contested victory over Njokuani. Barboza was outlanded in that fight 72-46. The young Brazilian is feeling good about his start in the UFC.

"I think I'm already in the mix," Barboza told MMAjunkie.com.

Many would argue with Barboza, who has yet to face a top level grappler yet. That's a big factor considering the top of the division is filled with former college wrestlers like Frank Edgar, Clay Guida, Gray Maynard and Jim Miller.

Barboza (9-0, 3-0 UFC) explained further.
