Rand Getlin at Yahoo Sports 20 days ago

Florida State QB Jameis Winston is "seriously considering" staying in school, according to multiple sources close to the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner.

Winston hasn’t made any formal declarations, and there are no indications that he has made a concrete decision, but his camp has taken material steps to pave the way for the talented redshirt sophomore to return for at least one more season in Tallahassee, should he ultimately decide to do so, according to one well-placed source.

According to multiple reports, Winston will make his decision sometime after the College Football Playoff national championship on Monday.

The deadline for underclassmen to declare is Jan. 15.

Winston suffered the first loss of his collegiate career in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day. The Bessemer, Ala., native is now 26-1 as a starter after the Seminoles lost 59-20 to the Oregon Ducks in a College Football Playoff semifinal game.

Winston led Florida State to a national championship last season and has thrown for nearly 8,000 yards and 65 touchdowns in his two years as a starter.

Florida State defensive back Ronald Darby is considered a lock to enter the 2015 NFL draft, according to multiple sources familiar with the underclassman's thinking.

Darby, a junior, hasn't made any official declarations, but he has met with agents in an effort to vet potential representatives, sources said.

Early media draftnik projections have Darby as a second- or third-round pick. This season, paired opposite standout cornerback P.J. Williams, Darby tallied four pass breakups and 37 total tackles.

LSU defensive back Jalen Collins is widely considered to be a lock to enter the 2015 NFL draft, according to multiple sources familiar with the underclassman's process.

Some inside the Tigers program believe it's a foregone conclusion that Collins will skip his senior season at LSU, sources said. Collins requested a draft grade from the NFL's college advisory committee, The Advocate (La.) reported on Wednesday.

Collins hasn't made any official declarations – he told reporters Wednesday, "I've thought about it a couple times, but I haven't made any final decisions yet," according to ESPN.com – but he has met with agents and is in the process of narrowing down his list of prospective representatives, sources said.

In 12 games, Collins had one interception, nine pass breakups and 33 tackles. He is collectively projected by media draftniks as a second-day selection.

LSU concludes the season on Dec. 30 in the Music City Bowl against Notre Dame.

  • Sources: Oregon CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu's season in doubt after 'serious' knee injury

Rand Getlin at Yahoo Sports 1 mth ago

Oregon cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu suffered a serious knee injury in practice on Tuesday and his status is uncertain for the Ducks' upcoming playoff game, sources told Yahoo Sports.

If the injury is as serious as believed, it would force Ekpre-Olomu out of the Ducks' College Football Playoff semifinal game against Florida State on Jan. 1, 2015.

Ekpre-Olumu is in his senior season at Oregon and was considered a top-tier cornerback in the 2015 NFL draft. The Chino Hills, Calif., native has 63 tackles, two interceptions and 11 pass deflections this year.

Ekpre-Olumu had a standout season in 2013, finishing second in the country in forced fumbles (6) and seventh nationally in passes defended (20).

The Ducks have built their reputation on offense, but their defense has improved markedly during their run to the College Football Playoff, allowing just 22.5 points per game.

Ekpre-Olumu's injury is a significant blow as Oregon prepares to face 2013 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston and the No. 3-ranked Seminoles, who are averaging 34.8 points per game.

  • Sources: Miss. State LB McKinney considered lock to enter NFL draft

Rand Getlin at Yahoo Sports 1 mth ago

Mississippi State linebacker Benardrick McKinney is considered a lock to enter the 2015 NFL draft, according to multiple sources familiar with the underclassman's thinking.

McKinney's camp has begun taking meetings with agents in an effort to vet potential representatives, sources said. The redshirt junior requested a draft grade from the NFL draft advisory board last week, the Clarion Ledger (Miss.) reported.

If media draftnik projections are correct, that grade is likely a first-round one. As 6-foot-5, 245-pound inside linebacker lauded for his speed, McKinney led the No. 8 Bulldogs with 61 total tackles, eight of them for a loss. He also had 3.5 sacks.

An AFC college scout told NFL.com's Albert Breer in November that McKinney projected as "Rolando McClain or poor man's Brian Urlacher." They were each top-10 picks in their respective draft years.

McKinney's final game as a Bulldog could come Dec. 31 against Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
