Daunte Culpepper(notes) is about to be employed as a professional football player once again. It won't be with an NFL team, though. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it will be with the UFL's Sacramento Mountain Lions.

Not being able to land a job anywhere in the NFL, even as a third-stringer, has got to be difficult to accept for Culpepper, who most recently played quarterback for the Detroit Lions. We're talking about a two-time All-Pro, a three-time Pro Bowler and a guy who once graced the cover of Madden.

Now he's on a team that's also accepting players from open tryouts.

Here's the good news, though. Remember J.P. Losman(notes), former first-round pick of the Buffalo Bills? He washed out of the NFL, spent a year choo-choo'ing with the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives, won the UFL title, and is now back in the bigs. He signed with the Seahawks on Tuesday.

So the UFL can be a path back to the big show. It would be nice to see Culpepper have a great year with the Mountain Lions — well,

So, this happened: Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Darnell Dockett(notes) took a shower live on UStream to win a $1,000 bet.

I promise I am not making that up. In fact, I promise you, the reader, that I will never, ever make up any stories about defensive linemen bathing live online. That is a solemn vow.

I saw the story on SportsByBrooks a few days ago, but I chose to ignore it. No disrespect to Brooks intended here, but it's just one of those stories that felt weird, icky, and so unusual that it could also possibly be the work of a hacker or prankster. With that in mind, I didn't want to call attention to it and further embarrass Darnell Dockett on the off chance that it wasn't true or wasn't what it seemed.

There's not much point in holding back now, though, since Dockett admitted he did it, and apologized for it.

As a wildly irresponsible golf-cart driver, this brutal story hits slightly close to home.

Broncos offensive tackle Matt McChesney(notes) was knocking it around the links recently. He stopped and stepped out of his cart, and just as he did, another golf cart zoomed by and rolled over his ankle. The same ankle, unfortunately, that had to be surgically put back together after an injury last season.

There are reports that McChesney's going to retire. Mike Klis of the Denver Post says that while the Broncos want him back, McChesney "appears ready to enter the next phase of his life."

You never know what life's going to throw at you. This guy is 6-foot-4 and 307 pounds of gym-sculpted man-beast, and his career may have been ended playing a sport that encourages plaid pants and has only the word "fore" as a safety precaution. I'm sure I'll think of him the next time I have the urge to do something dumb in a golf cart.

While McChesney is obviously the most affected here, it puts the Broncos

Remember the school kids who won the NFL's Fuel Up to Play 60 program? With their victory, they expected some actual New England Patriots to visit, and then were let down -- though, contrary to my original erroneous post, it was in no way the fault of the Patriots organization.

Well, the Patriots, out of the pure goodness of their hearts, decided to lift the spirits of those kids anyway. Bill Belichick, Dan Koppen(notes), the team mascot and a cheerleader visited Lebanon Middle School Wednesday, to the delight of the youngsters.

“I kept telling him it isn’t our fault,” [Patriots director of media relations Stacy] James said. “But he looked at me and said, ‘Nobody cares about who is at fault, people just care about the kids.’”

If this had happened a few years ago, it would've been life-changing fantasy football news. Of course, a few years ago, Brian Westbrook(notes) had stable knees and a non-battered brain, and the Broncos could roll out 1,000-yard rushers like they were playing the arcade version of "10 Yard Fight."

Both of those eras seem like a long time ago. Westbrook, who's still looking for a home as a free agent, will take a visit to Denver, according to Adam Schefter.

Sounds like Denver is serious on RB Brian Westbrook, who suddenly has options with the Broncos, Redskins, Rams and who knows who else.

As noted by Schefter, Westbrook once visited the Rams, but walked away without a deal, and recently, did the same thing with the Redskins. It's a pretty nice turn of events for a guy who went weeks and weeks without any interest at all, and now, he's suddenly got (at least) three decent options. Good for him.

A lot of times when I'm watching the Dallas Cowboys, I think, "Wow, that Leonard Davis(notes) is big, strong and powerful, but he also appears to have a gentle touch that might one day prove handy in saving baby ducklings from a sand trap." Turns out, I was right.

Davis' duckling-saving effort took place at the annual Cowboys' Sponsor Appreciation Golf Tournament. The baby ducks ended up in a bunker they couldn't get out of (I can relate), but luckily, Davis was there to save the day. That was very, very sweet of him.

This is why I'm glad the Cowboys didn't sign Michael Vick(notes). He'd have taken two of them, locked them in a cage, strapped razor blades to their feet and made them fight to the death.

I don't know if the Cincinnati Bengals employ an official team sports psychologist, but if they do, that man or woman is probably in their office right now, door locked, balled up in the corner and sobbing, "Why me?!"

There's talk that the Bengals, after already adding Pacman Jones and Matt Jones(notes) this offseason, are looking to bring in failed Raider quarterback JaMarcus Russell(notes), too.
