Former D-League Canton guard Will Cherry has agreed to a two-year deal worth the NBA minimum with the Toronto Raptors, a source told Yahoo Sports Wednesday.
Cherry averaged 11.6 points, 4.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game for Canton last season. The 6-foot, 185-pounder went undrafted out of Montana in 2013. Cherry also received strong interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers after playing for their summer league squad this year.
The Oakland, Calif., native is expected to sign the partially guaranteed contract in the coming days.

LAS VEGAS – If Paul George wins a championship with the U.S. at the World Cup this summer, perhaps it will help him get over his Indiana Pacers falling apart when it mattered the most last season. The way George sees it, the Pacers would be NBA champions now if they had just stayed the course.
"If we had the same mentality that we had to start the year off, we would have won the championship," George told Yahoo Sports. "We were playing the best ball of all of our careers and Pacers history in general. For us to not finish the year where we started is tough."
The Pacers looked like NBA title contenders after starting the season 40-11. They struggled down the stretch and their poor play carried into the postseason. They needed the full seven games to beat the Atlanta Hawks in the first round and six games to beat the Washington Wizards in the second round. They ended up losing to the Miami Heat in the East finals.

LAS VEGAS – Ever since LeBron James announced he was returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant has heard the drum beat louder for him to return to his hometown of Washington.
"It's being talked about," Durant said after the U.S. team's practice for the World Cup on Tuesday. "Everybody is asking me about it every time I go on Instagram or Twitter. All my friends ask me about it. I'm not going to sit here and act like I'm naïve to the fact that people think about that stuff.
"I tell everybody, 'Look, I'm here in Oklahoma City. I love it here. Who knows what will happen?' I will never close the door on anything, but I like where I'm at right now."
Durant thought James made a great decision to return home to Akron, Ohio, and texted him congratulations.

The rebuilding Magic have also added Ben Gordon, Luke Ridnour and Channing Frye, Willie Green, Evan Fournier and rookies Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton this offseason.

LAS VEGAS – After one practice, USA Basketball executive director Jerry Colangelo saw enough from Derrick Rose to be comfortable saying the Chicago Bulls guard has a "great chance" to play in the upcoming World Cup in Spain.
Rose has played in only 10 total games the past two seasons for the Bulls and 50 the past three because of various injuries – most notably two major knee surgeries. The 2011 NBA MVP said he is fully committed to making the team. He's competing against a strong list of points guards that includes Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard and John Wall.
"If [Monday] was any indication, he'll be just fine," Colangelo said. "We have a month here for people to get ready. Based on today, I'll project him two weeks, three weeks, four weeks from now … he'll be ready.
LAS VEGAS – Team USA opens training camp on Monday to begin preparing for next month's World Cup in Spain. Mike Krzyzewski is back as coach, and he sat down with Yahoo Sports to discuss Derrick Rose's return, his own health, LeBron James' return to Cleveland and other topics.
Yahoo Sports: What is your reaction to Kevin Love and Blake Griffin deciding not to play just days before training camp?
LAS VEGAS – Klay Thompson is confident he will still be with the Golden State Warriors next season amid the Kevin Love trade talk.
The Warriors have spoken with the Minnesota Timberwolves about acquiring Love, but also have strong competition from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. Golden State has balked at moving its starting shooting guard and Thompson said he "got that vibe" from new Warriors coach Steve Kerr that he wouldn't be traded.
"We got a good core. I feel we have one of the better backcourts in the league," Thompson, referring to his backcourt mate Stephen Curry, told Yahoo Sports on Sunday.
"I feel like we have a team that can do big things. Health is going to be huge, but I feel like we can make big strides this year.
"The fact that I haven't been traded yet makes me feel comfortable. That speaks for itself."
Thompson is taking part in USA Basketball's training camp beginning Monday with hopes of making the World Cup team. Curry is also vying for a roster spot and he doesn't believe Thompson will be traded.
LAS VEGAS – USA Basketball added Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap to the roster on Sunday in preparation for the World Cup, a source told Yahoo Sports.
Kevin Love, Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge all recently withdrew from the roster, depriving the U.S. of three of the game's best power forwards. Millsap, whose lone USA experience includes participating the 2009 men's national team training camp, averaged 17.9 points and 8.5 rebounds with the Hawks last season.
The U.S. isn't expected to add any other players to the roster, the source said.
USA Basketball begins its training camp for the World Cup in Spain on Monday here. DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, Kenneth Faried and Chandler Parsons are the other remaining big men in the pool of players.

USA Basketball lost another key big man when Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Kevin Love withdrew from the World Cup team on Saturday, two days before the start of training camp.
USA Basketball said in a statement that Love withdrew from the national team this summer because of his "current status." Love is seeking a trade from Minnesota, and an injury during next month's World Cup – or preparations for it – could impact negotiations.
The Cleveland Cavaliers – along with other teams – have had ongoing talks with the T'wolves about a trade for Love. Any deal involving Cavaliers' No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins can't be completed until at least Aug. 23 because Wiggins signed his rookie contract on Thursday.
Love has told the Timberwolves he will become a free agent and leave them in free agency after next season if he is not traded.
Love expressed a commitment to play for USA in the 2014 World Cup last summer while standing alongside forward Kevin Durant and USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in contract negotiations with Byron Scott for the former Lakers guard to become the franchise's next head coach, a league source told Yahoo Sports.
The Lakers' lengthy coaching search took a step forward to being finalized when they offered the job to Scott on Friday, a source said. Scott has long been the front-runner for the position after having three interviews with the Lakers. He also has been endorsed by Lakers guard Kobe Bryant.
The Lakers also interviewed Mike Dunleavy, Kurt Rambis, Alvin Gentry and Lionel Hollins and had informal talks with George Karl. Rambis, Gentry and Hollins have been hired recently for new coaching positions.
Scott played a key role in helping the Los Angeles Lakers win three NBA championships (1985, '87 and '88) during his 14-year NBA playing career. He also coached the New Jersey Nets to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and '03. Scott has a 416-521 record as an NBA head coach with New Jersey (2000-04), New Orleans (2004-10) and Cleveland (2010-13).
ESPN first reported the Lakers had entered negotiations with Scott.
