    • Thunder agree to deal with former No. 2 pick Hasheem Thabeet

The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to center Hasheem Thabeet to a two-year deal, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

Thabeet has had a disappointing career since being drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies second overall in 2009. He's played sparingly and spent time in the NBA's Developmental League. Thabeet will be joining his fourth team after playing for the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers last season.

Thabeet has averaged 2.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in his NBA career. Free agents can begin signing contracts on July 11.

Steve Nash will get a guaranteed three-year, $27 million contract from the Lakers. (Getty Images)The Lakers will give Nash a three-year, $27 million contract. They used the trade exception they received from last year's Lamar Odom deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

"He's ecstatic," said Billy Duffy, Nash's agent. "He gets to be close to his children."

The Suns will get the Lakers' 2013 and '15 first-round draft picks and their 2014 and '15 second-round selections. The Lakers also paid the Suns $3 million to facilitate the trade.

Phoenix radio station KTAR 620 first broke the news of the Suns' sign-and-trade agreement with the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash talked about playing together with Lakers on Monday night, and again late Wednesday afternoon, a league source told Y! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

    • Eric Gordon agrees to Suns' $58 million offer sheet; Hornets plan to match

The New Orleans Hornets plan to match the maximum four-year, $58 million offer sheet free-agent guard Eric Gordon received from the Phoenix Suns, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Eric Gordon played in only nine games last season. (AP)The Hornets had always indicated they planned to match whatever offer Gordon received, and they don't appear willing to change that stance in spite of Gordon's public proclamation that "Phoenix is just where my heart is now."

Gordon can't officially sign the offer sheet until July 11. Because Gordon is a restricted free agent, the Hornets will have three days to match.

Gordon met with Suns officials, including owner Robert Sarver, on Monday and Tuesday before agreeing to the offer sheet, the maximum allowed under NBA rules for a player with his experience.

    • Celtics reach deal with Jason Terry

The Boston Celtics have reached agreement with Dallas Mavericks free-agent guard Jason Terry on a three-year contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Celtics will use their $5 million mid-level exception to sign Terry. The total value of the contract will be $15.6 million.

Terry spoke with Celtics president Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers on the first day of free agency Sunday. Rivers told Yahoo! Sports he hopes Boston can still re-sign Ray Allen, in addition to adding Terry. The Celtics have also already reached agreement with Kevin Garnett on a three-year, $34 million contract.

Free agents can sign contracts on July 11.

Terry averaged 15.1 points and 3.6 assists while shooting 37.8 percent from 3-point range last season for Dallas. Terry, 34, often expressed frustration about not being signed to a contract extension after being a key member of the Mavericks' 2011 NBA championship team.

    • Doc Rivers: Celtics want to keep core together; hope to re-sign Ray Allen

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers wants to "bring the band back together." That, apparently, now includes bringing back Ray Allen.

Free-agent guard Ray Allen is drawing interest from several teams, including the Heat. (Getty Images)The Celtics have already reached agreement on a three-year, $34 million contract with Kevin Garnett. Their top priority now, Rivers said, is trying to re-sign Allen. For all the talk about the Celtics breaking up their championship core after falling a game short of reaching the NBA Finals for the third time in five years, they now seem determined to push forward with their same stars.

"We want to get the band back together and add to it," Rivers told Yahoo! Sports by phone. "We have a great locker room with no issues. Guys want to be back and want to be a part of this."

Allen has drawn interest from several teams, including the Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks, and plans to take his time in making a decision. Rivers thinks Garnett's return helps the Celtics' chances of re-signing Allen. Allen and Garnett

    • NBA's top 20 free agents: Deron Williams No. 1

Deron Williams will be the star of this summer's NBA free-agent market, but he likely won't be jetting around the country visiting several teams. Williams has already narrowed his options to two: Stay with the Nets as they prepare for their first season in Brooklyn; or join Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks.

NBA teams can begin negotiating with free agents at 12:01 a.m. ET Sunday, though contracts can't officially be signed until July 11. Williams' courtship isn't expected to take too long: He hopes to make his decision before Team USA opens its Olympic training camp Friday in Las Vegas.

Deron Williams could get an extra year worth about $25 million if he re-signs with the Nets. (Getty Images)The Nets' chances of keeping Williams, league sources said, could hinge on whether they can convince another marquee star to join them. So far, they've been unable to convince the Orlando Magic to trade Dwight Howard. The Nets also had interest in Kevin Garnett, but he's already agreed to re-sign with the Boston Celtics.

    • Kevin Garnett to re-sign with Celtics

Kevin Garnett isn't ready to retire.

Few people expected Kevin Garnett to leave the Celtics given his loyalty to coach Doc Rivers. (Reuters)Garnett has decided to return to the Boston Celtics and is expected to sign a three-year, $34 million contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The NBA's free-agent period begins at 12:01 a.m. ET Sunday and players can officially start signing contracts on July 11.

Garnett, 36, averaged 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds for the Celtics last season. He was expected to draw interest from other teams, but his loyalty to coach Doc Rivers made him likely to return to Boston once he decided to keep playing. One NBA executive said Garnett would have only left the Celtics if they didn’t make him a solid contract offer.

The Celtics have several other free agents in Ray Allen, Brandon Bass, Marquis Daniels, Keyon Dooling, Jeff Green, Ryan Hollins, Sasha Pavlovic and Mickael Pietrus. Allen is expected to be courted by the Phoenix Suns.

    • NBA draft 2012: Winners and losers

NEWARK, N.J. – Perry Jones III somehow folded his 6-foot-11 frame into one of the Prudential Center's cramped arena seats, leaving him little room to stretch his long legs as he watched Thursday's NBA draft. The squeeze was all the more uncomfortable for the Baylor forward given that he had to nearly wait until the entire first round was over before leaving his seat.

One NBA executive said Jones has the athleticism, skills and versatility to challenge Kentucky's Anthony Davis as the most talented player in this year’s draft. But NBA teams grade prospects on more than talent, and that's why Davis was taken first overall by the New Orleans Hornets and Jones – once considered a top-five candidate – fell all the way to the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 28. Perry Jones III was the 28th pick of Thursday's NBA draft. (Getty Images)

No player suffered a more disappointing drop in the 2012 draft, and scouts point to two big reasons why: Jones' inconsistent play during his sophomore season and a reported knee condition that might have scared teams. Some talent
