    • Packers Super Bowl ring turns up in federal drug bust

(AP)Drug Enforcement Administration officials arrested six members of a drug trafficking ring on Monday. In their bust, they turned up heroin, cash, weapons, and a Super Bowl XLV ring stolen from a Green Bay Packers' team executive.

The defendants, all from the Chicago area, have been under surveillance for months, but it remains unclear how one of them ended up with the Super Bowl ring. The Packers won Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the team received its rings in June of 2011.

Last week, another ring from Super Bowl XLV was in the news. A Packers' employee pawned her ring, which was bought by a 71-year-old Wisconsin man who called himself a lifelong Packers fan.

    • A piece of wood from the pole Jon Jones’ Bentley hit is on eBay

Jon Jones' DWI has piqued the interest of the MMA world, and one eBay seller decided to capitalize on that. A piece of wood from the telephone pole Jones hit with his Bentley is for sale on eBay.

The seller said in his listing:

Well, I've heard people sell & buy crazy things, so I'm going to test that theory now... This is a piece of  telephone pole wood that was knocked off when Jon Jones crashed into it w/ his Bentley on the corner of Grand Blvd & Helen St. in Binghamton on May 19th, 2012... It measures about 14 inches long & actually has a "crashed smell odor" to it... It is about an inch wide in the middle & then narrows out at the ends... One pic shows the wood piece & the other pic shows the actual pole which is cracked near the bottom & now supported by wood beams... This is a good conversation piece & definitely WAY more interesting than his last fight... Maybe you can get him to sign it someday, but you may need to use it as protection if he throws a flying elbow your way rather than an autograph.

Genuine "crashed smell odor!" And the seller is even making jokes about Jones' fight with Rashad Evans. That's pretty bold from someone who is trying to profit off of the UFC light heavyweight champ. Considering how Jones feels about being asked to sign replica belts, I'll bet that he wouldn't like signing this particular piece of "memorabilia."

    • Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson retires before Olympic Trials

(Getty)Just three weeks before the Olympic Trials, Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson retired from gymnastics. She cited a knee injury that she sustained skiing while not competing in gymnastics.

"I still have the heart, drive, and desire to compete and help the USA at the London Olympics," said Johnson.  "Unfortunately, it has become obvious that my left knee is not able to sustain the demands of gymnastics any longer. All I can do now is gracefully retire and thank everyone who has believed in me and my journey."

She walks away from the sport with an Olympic gold and three silvers. Her dynamic routines in Beijing helped the U.S. earn a silver team medal, and she earned three golds at the 2007 world championships. After the Games, she also won TV's popular reality show "Dancing with the Stars."

Johnson's retirement will make the decision of the committee choosing the Olympic team a touch easier. The U.S. won the world championships in 2011 and

    • Martin Kampmann and Michael Chiesa big winners at ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ finale

(Tracy Lee)In his last fight, Martin Kampmann was beat up by Thiago Alves for an entire fight before coming back with a submission win. This time, he only needed two rounds to get a comeback win.

Jake Ellenberger clipped Kampmann off the bell of the first round. He knocked him down and then tried to follow up with a bevy of strikes. Kampmann held on for the rest of the round. In the second, Kampmann again appeared wobbled, but caught Ellenberger with a right. He then finished the fight with knees that ended the fight at 1:40 in the second.

UFC commentator Jon Anik hinted in the post-fight interview that a match-up with Johny Hendricks in a title eliminator is the next step for Kampmann.

(Tracy Lee)Michael Chiesa won "The Ultimate Fighter" tonight with a rear naked choke that put Al Iaquinta to sleep at the TUF finale in Las Vegas on Friday night. Chiesa held off Iaquinta's attacks early on before getting the takedown. He took Iaquinta's back and wore him down until he could finally maneuver the choke into place. Iaquinta didn't tap; instead the fight was stopped when referee Herb Dean recognized that Iaquinta was asleep at 2:47 in the first.

It was an emotional win for Chiesa, whose father died the first week the younger Chiesa was at the TUF house.

"This is exactly what I wanted. There's no way I was going to sell myself short. I overcame a lot of things to win this fight," Chiesa said after the bout.

With the win, Chiesa gets a six-figure contract with the UFC, a Tapout sponsorship and a Harley-Davidson. Iaquinta can be comforted by the fact he won $50,000 before even stepping in the Octagon. He won bonuses for Knockout of the Season and Fight of the Season for his bout with Myles Jury, who won $25,000. Joe Proctor won $25,000 for the Submission of the Season.

    • (Getty)It's Reader Rants, when Cagereaders' opinions get center stage. They had plenty to talk about this week. Jason "Mayhem" Miller moving on from MMA, Antonio Silva's bloody face, Brock Lesnar's rumored return and Wanderlei Silva's comments about Vitor Belfort's broken hand all had tons of discussion on the Cagewriter Facebook page. If you want to be featured in a future Reader Rants, like Cagewriter on Facebook and comment on the stories that show up in your newstream.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller was dismissed from the UFC, and then he decided to retire. You all had very different views on him.

He's probably not worth the money he commanded. He's a recognizable face to put in against up-and-comers, but for a longtime veteran, that's probably not exactly what Dana White and co. are looking for. I've never had a problem with his walkouts and craziness, though. He's a showman. Put a camera on him in any situation and he likely to act crazy. -- John Wilcox

I think Dana has always had it in for him... Cut him after going the distance with GSP, when GSP was something special and finished fighters. His Bisping performance was terrible, sure but for Dana to call it the most lopsided fight ever is a joke. His performance against C.B. "lay and pray" Dollaway looked better on his feet than I've seen him in a while but blew out his knee. White has given other fighters much more of a chance than he gave Miller. I hope he's not done as I for one would love to see one last Miller-Kennedy fight. -- Will Howard

Cagereaders were moved by the large amount of blood in the Silva bout.

    • Londoners unhappy over cost of beer at Olympics

This will cost you. (Getty)The 2012 Summer Olympics organizers have released prices for food and drinks. Not shockingly, the prices are higher than at usual sporting events held in London, and some people planning to go to the Games are not happy.

A pint of Heineken will cost 7.23 pounds or just over $11. Tweets complained that the price was "a shocker." Another said, "I'm going to need a credit card to pay for that!!"

Paul Deighton, chief executive of London 2012, said prices are right in line with other major sporting events.

"We believe that our prices are more than comparable to those found at other major sporting events, which because of their temporary nature are often more expensive than the high street," he said.

A beer at the Super Bowl in 2012 cost $11. However, beer at the World Cup in South Africa cost just over $3. But London is already a much more expensive place than Capetown or Johannesburg. It was ranked 21st in the world's most expensive cities on an 80-city list that didn't have any South African cities.

Do Londoners not know about pre-gaming? Perhaps this particular party trick is only used by broke American college students. In the interest of world peace, Fourth-Place Medal will share it with the world. Londoners, here's what you do. Start stocking up on beer and wine now. You know the prices will go up at stores when the Olympics start, so buy in bulk.

Before you head to equestrian or fencing or whatever Olympic event you are attending and would like to be lubed up for, drink some of that beer. Drink a lot of that beer. Get your fill, then only buy one of those fancy, expensive beers at the arena.

    • Kenny Florian officially retires from MMA

This is the face of a man headed to retirement. (Getty)Kenny Florian officially announced his retirement from fighting on Thursday. He had been contemplating walking away from the Octagon after a back injury. He walks away as one of the fighters who helped the UFC build to its current size.

Though Florian had three title shots and didn't win any, his career had plenty of highlights:

Cutting down to featherweight and beating Diego Nunes at UFC 131: After starting in the UFC at 185 lbs. and methodically working down to 155 lbs., the already thin Florian wanted a shot at featherweight and champion Jose Aldo. To get that shot, he first had to get through Diego Nunes, both to prove that he could cut down to 145 and that he could win at that weight. He did it, beating Nunes in a unanimous decision.

"I want BJ's belt!": Florian had one title shot against Sean Sherk. It was early in his UFC career, and he wasn't quite ready. With six straight lightweight wins, Florian had the credentials but it couldn't hurt to ask for it. After submitting Joe Stevenson in the first round, Florian said the phrase that was used in ubiquitous commercials: "I want BJ's belt!"

Stopping the Roger Huerta train at UFC 87: Heading into this fight, Huerta had a ton of hype surrounding him. He hadn't lost in the UFC and his most recent fight was a thrilling, comeback win over Clay Guida. If he won, he was expected to get a title shot. Florian wouldn't let that happen. He dominated Huerta for three rounds on the way to a unanimous decision.

TKO of Alex Karalexis at Ultimate Fight Night 1: After fighting at middleweight for "The Ultimate Fighter" and getting to the finals, Florian cut down to welterweight. Those Florian "Hellbows" helped him make a post-TUF mark. He made a huge cut across Karalexis' nose and won by TKO in the second round.

Now, the smart and articulate Florian will have more time to lend his voice and insight to the UFC's broadcasts on Fuel TV.
