    • Phil Davis stepping in for Tito Ortiz at Ultimate Fight Night 24

Phil Davis is getting his shot to move into the upper echelon of the UFC's light heavyweight division. The undefeated fighter is stepping in for Tito Ortiz at Ultimate Fight Night 24 and will take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Ortiz, who was last seen in a Twitter spat with Forrest Griffin, reportedly suffered a cut in training that forced him to withdraw from the fight.

Ortiz's cut is Davis' opportunity. He had originally been booked for a fight with Jason Brilz, but now is headlining the UFC's stop in Seattle as well as taking on a respected veteran in "Little Nog."

Davis had a breakout year in 2010, fighting four times and winning four times. He topped off the year with a Submission of the Night with over Tim Boetsch at UFC 123. When he last spoke with Cagewriter, Davis laughed off the idea of a title shot. But Davis has a chance to make a big step towards the top of light heavyweight division with a win over Nogueira.

    • Twitter beef: Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz spar online

Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz have fought twice, and both have ended in a split decision, one win for each fighter. Either those losses didn't sit well with Griffin, or he was bored and needed some entertainment on Thursday.

Griffin tweeted a self-deprecating message, comparing himself to Ortiz's worst qualities. Ortiz responded with several tweets ripping on Griffin.

Tito, let's talk for a second. I've taken one psychology class in grad school, so I'm pretty sure that qualifies me to analyze you. Is it possible that you have some unresolved anger and insecurity over the recent rough patch your career has hit? And just who are you angry at, Tito? Is it Forrest or is it this guy?

Work it out, Tito. Channel that anger towards your March 26 bout with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Or maybe try some yoga and scented candles.

    • Kurt Pellegrino's many skills include freestyle rapping

In getting ready for his UFC 128 bout with Gleison Tibau, Kurt Pellegrino spent time training with his good buddy Kenny Florian. He was so inspired by the UFC lightweight-turned-featherweight that Pellegrino turned Michael Jackson's "Beat It" into a song about training with KenFlo. Be warned, Pellegrino drops a few dirty words in his rap, but he felt the beat. Who can blame him?

    • Bellator wants you to spend Saturday nights with them

Bellator Fighting Championships kicks off its fourth season on the first weekend of March, and again, they'll be on a new network and on a new night. MTV2 will air Bellator's fights live on Saturday nights starting Mar. 5.

The good news is that the tournament-based promotion will be live, something they didn't have with Fox Sports, their previous home. The bad news is that Saturday nights are owned by the UFC and Strikeforce. Will Bellator face a conflict?

"That's part of the magic we have here," [Bellator CEO Bjorn] Rebney said. "When I was sitting down with the MTV folks, they said, 'Look, if there's a big UFC event, if there's a pay-per-view event, we'll kick our show an hour or two earlier so that it can be an MMA night for fans.' They can go from MTV2 to Spike TV or go from MTV2 to pay-per-view.

Bellator's hope is that MMA fans can make a night of it. For MTV and Spike's parent company, Viacom, this is a dream come true. Fans can stay with their company for hours of MMA

    • Sarah Kaufman offers to welcome Gina Carano back to the cage

During Saturday night's Strikeforce broadcast, former women's contender Gina Carano announced that she was returning to MMA after taking a break to film a movie. She did not have a return date or an opponent, but Carano will be back.

Sarah Kaufman heard this announcement, and was kind enough to offer her hospitality to Carano. She tweeted, "I would give Gina a fight that would force her to "leave it all in the cage" :D."

Kaufman, the former welterweight champ hasn't been in the cage since she lost her title to Marloes Coenen in October. Kaufman's weight of 135 lbs. would be a stretch for Carano, who has struggled to hit 145 lbs.

    • Strikeforce's Three Stars: Silva, Kharitonov and Griggs

Strikeforce's kickoff of their heavyweight Grand Prix featured plenty of submissions, knockouts and slugfests, but it will be remembered for one thing: Fedor's (possible) end.

No. 1 star -- Antonio Silva: At fight time, Silva weighed 55 lbs. more than Fedor, and he used that size advantage to dominate Emelianenko in the second round. He rained down fists, beating up Fedor's face until it was barely recognizable. Then, after the confusion cleared and it was clear Silva had won, "Big Foot" immediately headed to his opponent's corner and honored him. Next, he will face the winner of Alistair Overeem vs. Fabrico Werdum.

No. 2 star -- Sergei Kharitonov: Riding a wave of emotion from the Russian fans at the Izod Center, Kharitonov patiently waited through early strikes from Arlovski and then picked a spot to lay a bevy of punches that knocked Arlovski out of the tournament. Kharitonov gets Josh Barnett or Brett Rogers next.

No. 3 star -- Chad Griggs: His win over Gian Villante was bloody,

    • Kharitonov KOs Arlovski, moves to Strikeforce Grand Prix semis

Sergei Kharitonov earned the first semifinal berth in the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix, knocking out Andrei Arlovski at 2:49 in the first round of their bout in New Jersey on Saturday.

Arlovski, a crowd favorite, started strong with a flurry of strikes and kicks. He had good movement early, avoiding Kharitonov's strikes. But it turned bad for Arlovski when Kharitonov used the clinch to work inside, then landed a knee, an uppercut and knocked him to the the ground with a short right jab. Kharitonov finished the bout with a strike on the ground, knocking Arlovski out cold.

This is Arlovski's fourth loss in a row, with three of them first-round knockouts. He was once the UFC heavyweight champion, but now is in a precarious point in his career with a record of 15-9.

Kharitonov, who made his name in the Pride Fighting Championships, laughed off the suggestion that he is a darkhorse in this tournament.

"I don't care what the experts say. I'm going to win this tournament."

      He will
