    • UltimateBall mixes MMA, soccer, rugby, basketball and a dash of awesome

Did you ever watch soccer and think, "This really needs some takedowns?" Or rugby and think, "Why isn't this played in a cage?" Or basketball and think, "An armbar would have been perfect right there?" Good news. The people from Ultimate Challenge MMA came up with Ultimate Ball.

Watch the first minute to get an idea of the newest game that will clearly take the world by storm. Watch the entire video to get a good laugh in as the announcers don't even understand what's going on as they ask, "What's the score?" in the final minute.

UCMMA has big hopes for UltimateBall, as the description on the YouTube video suggests:

In 1993 they said that UFC will never take off, look at it now, UltimateBall is the sport of the future, this isn't just an MMA ad on this is a NEW sport in its own right.

True, but in the 1960s, jai alai organizers thought their sport would be bigger than baseball, but which sport had their big opening day last week? Still, good luck to UCMMA and UltimateBall. Chaos can

    • Nick Diaz to face world champion BJJ player Braulio Estima in grappling superbout

(Getty)Nick Diaz has never been submitted in an MMA bout. While that streak may be safe as he sits out a suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission for testing positive for a banned substance after his loss to Carlos Condit, his BJJ will be tested soon. Diaz will participate in a bout with Braulio Estima. (Since it's not an MMA bout, he doesn't need a license so he's not violating the suspension.)

Estima is a highly-credentialed blackbelt in jiu-jitsu. He has won a world championship and numerous titles in BJJ and has two gold medals and a silver from the respected Abu Dhabi grappling tournament. In other words, he's one of the best around at groundwork.

Diaz and Estima will not wear gis (the traditional garment for BJJ) in their bout, making it more like an MMA bout. Diaz has eight wins by submission, but few opponents have the grappling skill of Estima. Will Diaz be able to win this bout? Tell us in the comments, on Twitter or on Facebook.

    • Report: Frank Trigg out at HD Net because of abuse and affair

      (Getty)

Former UFC fighter Frank Trigg was a popular commentator for several MMA promotions on HDNet, so his absence from their broadcasts was surprising. The gossip website "The Dirty" reports his dismissal was not for business reasons.

MMA fighter Frank Trigg choked out his wife in front of his children on October 17th, 2011. They are now going through a VERY messy divorce and the children who saw the carnage are right in the middle of it. He no longer is employed at HDnet because he was sleeping with a co-worker, assistant producer, 23 year old Amy Vaughn. The company does not approve of the affair and abuse that they were made aware of soon after the incident and have chosen not to utilize his services as a commentator anymore.

HDNet did not respond to requests for comment. Trigg said he does not comment on personal business.

Trigg was 21-9 as a fighter and had a memorable loss to Matt Hughes. He fought in the UFC, Pride, Rumble on the Rock and BAMMA.

    • Rashad Evans’ mother gives sage advice about his UFC 145 bout with Jon Jones

Before Rashad Evans fights, his mother always gives him advice. He shared her latest wisdom with UFC cameras.

Shirley Ann Evans told Cagewriter in 2010 her son laughed off much of what she told him about his bout with Lyoto Machida, so he listened when she spoke up about Quinton Jackson.

"The last fight with Machida, the one he lost? I had warned him. I said, 'Rashad, Machida feels that if he has your mind he can win the fight.' Rashad thought that was so funny. I said he feels like he can conquer your spirit, and Rashad thought that was funny. I said it's a mental fight, and he thought I was so funny, and then he lost. And I look up, and he's telling someone on national TV, my mother warned me about the fight. I told him, Rashad, [Jackson's] coming to knock you the hell out. He's not playing with you. Look for every opportunity you can to give that to him. He wasn't laughing this time!"

When Evans listens to his mother, he wins. Do you think he'll be following her advice next

    • L.A. firefighter arrested for fighting MMA bouts while on workman’s comp

Los Angeles firefighter Raphael Davis was arrested for suspicion of insurance fraud after investigators noticed he competed in seven MMA bouts while out on workman's compensation. L.A. Weekly reported that he could see up to five years in jail if he is convicted.

Though officials did not release what sort of injuries kept Davis out of work, logic says it's unlikely that an injury that would keep him from the firehouse would allow him to fight. Davis, who has an overall record of 12-2, went 6-1 while on leave. Two of those fights were for M-1 and another two were for Bellator.

How did Davis not think he was going to be caught? Fights are uploaded to YouTube and other video sites all the time. Wins and losses from most pro events are reported to Sherdog for their invaluable Fight Finder database. It didn't take a great investigator to bust this case wide open. In fact, Brenda Walsh used pretty much the same methods on "Beverly Hills, 90210" when she found a woman suing her family for whiplash Jazzercising in her living room.

    • Earl Bennett’s star turn in an underwear commercial (VIDEO)

Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett found a job to keep him busy in the offseason: modeling underwear. Besides being one of Jay Cutler's favorite targets, he also is a bit of an actor. The video is a bit racy, so press play with care if your boss is around.

Perhaps he won't give up running routes for walking runways anytime soon, but it's not a bad effort for a part-time model. Bennett tweeted to his teammates, asking Cutler, Johnny Knox, Brandon Marshall and Devin Hester who would star in the next ad.

Though none of them have yet told Bennett they would appear onscreen, Cutler commented on the ad on ESPN Chicago's "Waddle and Silvy Show." Referring to Bennett's wife, Cutler said, "I don't know what Keisha's going to say about that!"

    • Jon Jones, Rashad Evans’ UFC 145 feud affects teammates and coaches, too

Greg Jackson, Jon Jones and Mike Winkeljohn celebrate (Getty)With the ongoing feud between former friends and training partners Rashad Evans and Jon Jones, it's easy to just focus on the crumbled relationship between the two men. After all, it's their shared dislike that has made their march to UFC 145 so interesting.

But fighters don't train in a vacuum. They have coaches and training partners who walk every step with the fighter until that last one into the Octagon. A fighter's team will live and breathe that bout, which is why so many fighters refer to themselves as "we" when talking about their fights. Jones and Evans' feud ripped apart more than their friendship. It pulled Evans away from Greg Jackson, the coach and friend he had worked with for years.

For the first time, Jackson will look across the cage at Evans. He made that decision after getting advice from Mike Winkeljohn, Jackson's partner in their MMA gym in New Mexico. Winkeljohn told Bleacher Report why he wanted Jackson to corner Jones:

But he upset me in that he kept throwing Greg under the bus. Enough is enough. You have your disagreements, I understand that, but there's more important things out there. And it's time for Greg to work in Jon's corner. Jon's here everyday, helping everybody else out. I mean Jon's that guy. He goes out of his way to help everybody here on the team. So I told Greg, "work his corner."

Though fighting is a business and everyone is expected to act like a professional, that doesn't make it easy for Jackson to work against a fighter he helped build.

    • UFC on Fuel 2 will be aired live and during the day

People with Fuel can watch Gustafsson Saturday afternoon. (Getty)Saturday's UFC on Fuel 2 fights featuring Alexander Gustafsson vs. Thiago Silva as the main event will air live from Sweden. It's a welcome change from Spike's policy to show European fights on a tape delay, and it does mean UFC fans will have to experience the joy of daytime sports-watching.

People lucky enough to have Fuel TV can tune into the main card at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT. For those of us who cannot get their hands on Fuel (Say, because we live in apartment building that does not allow satellite dishes and Fuel is not available on Comcast, the building's cable provider,) I will host a chat here on Cagewriter. Using Twitter feeds and play-by-plays from people onsite in Sweden, we will cobble together what's happening in the Octagon. It will be just like how your grandpappy followed baseball.

    • Jon Jones spent Easter dodging ‘bullets’ (VIDEO)

With UFC 145 and his title bout with Rashad Evans drawing near, UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones spent Easter Sunday training in an unconventional way. With the help of his brother, Baltimore Ravens defensive end Arthur Jones, Jones dodged "bullets" to get in some off day training.

OK, so they were Nerf bullets, but still. Soft foam can be tough to dodge.
