conference preview series continues with a look at the Ohio Valley Conference, an under-the-radar league that should be especially formidable this year with Murray State and Morehead State both returning strong teams.
Is Murray State good enough to be an at-large contender?
Murray State went 17-1 in league play last year, upset Vanderbilt in the first round of the NCAA tournament and nearly toppled national runner-up Butler two days later, so it's easy to forget how small the Racers' margin for error was. Had Murray State suffered an upset loss in their conference tournament, the Racers almost certainly would have been relegated to the NIT.
With four of its six leading scorers returning and promising 6-foot-9 freshman Shawn Jackson set to join the team, Murray State has aspirations of not just repeating as league champs but also making things less stressful come conference tourney time.
