    • Vietnam Vet festival at Charlotte Motor Speedway ends in tragedy

Riders at Charlotte Motor Speedway. (Defense Video & Imagery Distribution)A daylong festival at Charlotte Motor Speedway meant to honor the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans ended in tragedy on Saturday as two motorcyclists riding on the track died following a collision. A third rider is in critical condition.

The Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration, which attracted more than 62,000 people, was meant as a way to commemorate the service of Vietnam veterans and their families. The event included a performance by the Charlie Daniels Band and the passionate support of advocacy groups and others supporting veterans and their families, as well as a traveling exhibition of the Vietnam War Memorial.

During the course of the event, motorcycle riders took to the track. And while the details of the wreck have not been released, several witnesses interviewed by area newspapers indicate there was plenty of unsafe driving going on. The two riders killed were operating motorcycles that collided.

Many of the estimated 2,000 riders were not wearing helmets. Some riders were

    • When you're trying to win a tournament, you don't want to double-bogey two holes. Louis Oosthuizen learned that to his sorrow on Sunday, watching his 54-hole lead evaporate as Hunter Mahan swooped in for the win. Mahan becomes the first two-time winner on the PGA Tour this year, and heads into Augusta with all kinds of confidence. And heaven knows he could use it; after near-misses at the Ryder Cup and the Tour Championship, the guy has to break through sometime, right? Right?

    • Video: Catch up on the five best stories of Martinsville

Short-track racing always brings out the best, or the worst, in people, and we had plenty of that on Sunday afternoon. They'll be talking for a long time about Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman's tap/dive-bomb that took out the two Hendrick honchos. And David Reutimann, through (almost) no fault of his own, has become quite the villain in the garage. Catch up with all of it right here, including Newman's win. (For a more complete look at the entire Sunday race, click here.) Work? Who needs work?

    • Tiger Woods '13, on sale now.Devil Ball's Proving Ground is the space where we review the latest and hottest products in the golf world. Today, we kill time between rounds with the latest installment of the Tiger Woods video game series.

Quick hit: EA Sports' latest entry in the Tiger Woods franchise is a quirky, fidgety first step in a new world for video games.

Background: Gather 'round, young'uns, and I'll tell you of a time when video-game controllers had one stick and one button, and we liked it! Well, not really; we just didn't know any better. Most game controllers now have more buttons than your standard airplane cockpit, which is fine. But it's right about time for an advancement in controller technology, and Tiger Woods '13 jumps on board the Kinect bandwagon for XBox. (The game is also available for PlayStation 3's Move system.)

    • Hey, what ever happened to Louis Oosthuizen? The guy we picked as one to win a few majors after his British Open triumph a couple years back really hasn't done a whole lot since then, but at the moment he's leading the Shell Houston Open along with Brian Davis. In the hunt: J.B. Holmes and Phil Mickelson, among others. Round 2 finishes up Saturday because of darkness; catch up with everything you need to know right here.

    • "Coxswain" and "nipples" aren't words you often hear in NASCAR press conferences, and yet Carl Edwards curiously dropped them into his discussion about the techniques of racing at Martinsville. Has somebody been dusting off the ol' thesaurus? Playing Words With Friends? No, as it turns out, Edwards won a $10 bet with his brother by sneaking those words into his press conference.

Well done, Carl. Next week, sneak in "fulminate" and "stanky." A cool $20 if you can work in "antidisestablishmentarianism."

The Masters tees off this week, and while the powers-that-be at Augusta don't make it quite as easy for you to see every shot as some other tournaments, they've nonetheless opened the virtual doors a lot wider. If you have one of those fancy smartphones or pads and haven't picked up the Masters app, you're missing out. Also, be sure to visit Masters.com for constant updates. • Fireball Cup: Jeff Gordon leads a still-tame competition

Junior tries very hard to protest his innocence. (Getty Images)Catching up with our year-long Fireball Cup competition, recognizing excellence in the field of NASCAR brawling. And through five races, it's been a pretty damn boring season, frankly. We could use some more anger and fist-throwing; everybody's just too darn calm these days.

Recall our rules, which can and do change on a whim:

      • Verbal/Twitter exchange; slightly aggressive driving leading to issues: 1 point
      • Bumping cars in an aggressive, making-a-point fashion: 2 points
      • Spin, non-critical: 3 points
      • Spin, critical: 4 points
      • Out of car, punches thrown: 5 points

Fireball Cup stats, Bristol and California:

Jeff Gordon: 1 point for jawing at Dale Earnhardt Jr. over a flat tire. (Bristol)
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: 1 point for overly aggressive driving that knocked out Gordon. (Bristol)
Kevin Harvick: 1 point for threatening to put Tony Stewart in the wall. (California)

So that gives us the following standings:

      Jeff Gordon, 4 points
      Dale Earnhardt Jr., 3 points
      Kevin Harvick, 1 point
      Matt

    • Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin have been sure things at Nashville, taking top 10 after top 10. But can they work their mojo this week? Both are solid right now, but so are several other cats. Your favorite NASCAR Jays, Hart and Busbee, offer up some cogent commentary on the odds of these two flat-track titans this weekend. Enjoy, and have your own say in the comments below.

    • Video: Get up on the first round of the Shell Houston Open

The Shell Houston Open ended early on Thursday because of rain, but not before Carl Pettersson and Angel Cabrera snagged a share of the lead. This is the last chance for some Masters tuneups, so don't be surprised to see some of your favorites trying something crazy, like, I don't know, the old billiard-ball stroke on putts. Augusta loves it when you do that. Play continues on Friday with the conclusion of Round 1 and (hopefully) all of Round 2.
