  • Former Utah CB Dominique Hatfield charged with assault

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 16 hrs ago

Former Utah cornerback Dominique Hatfield was charged with assault on Monday stemming from a July 5 incident.

According to the probable cause statement obtained KSL.com, Hatfield was at a party when a per son at the party asked Hatfield to stop "rolling marijuana into a blunt." The individual did not want the smell of marijuana in the room because there were several Utah athletes at the party and they could be subject to drug tests.

Hatfield took exception to this request and he and "unknown individuals" then grabbed the victim and "began striking him in the face and other parts of his body."

Court documents stated the victim sustained bruising to his eyes, shoulder and back as well as cuts to his face and nose.

Hatfield has been charged with a Class B Misdemeanor for assault.

This incident came just four days after Hatfield was allegedly involved in an unrelated aggravated robbery and theft case. Those charges were dropped, but coach Kyle Whittingham dismissed Hatfield from the team.

  • Pitt WR Tyler Boyd, DL Rori Blair suspended for season opener

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 17 hrs ago

Junior wide receiver Tyler Boyd and sophomore defensive lineman Rori Blair have been suspended for the season opener against Youngstown State, coach Pat Narduzzi announced Monday.

Both players were charged with DUI’s this offseason during separate incidents. Blair was stopped on March 15 for driving 117 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone in Pittsburgh. Blair was given a blood test, which came back positive for cannabinoids.

Boyd was stopped in suburban Pittsburgh and the officer at the scene smelled alcohol on Boyd. However, Boyd passed a field sobriety test and his blood alcohol limit was lower than legal limit of 0.08. Boyd admitted to the officer that he had been drinking and because he was 20 years old, he was taken to a hospital for a blood test.

Both players were suspended during the offseason, but Boyd was reinstated after he received probation.

Boyd is considered one of the best receivers in the ACC. He was third in the ACC in receptions (78), second in receiving yards (1,261) and tied for second in touchdown catches (8).

  • WATCH: Braxton Miller make a one-handed catch while holding five footballs

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 18 hrs ago

For those worried about how Ohio State’s Braxton Miller will fare as a receiver, the university’s Instagram account is here to put your mind at ease.

Yes, that’s Miller holding five footballs and catching a sixth — one-handed — from the jugs machine in the Ohio State indoor practice facility.

Obviously, there’s a lot more that goes into receiver — route running, blocking, etc. — but knowing that Miller has hands and concentration like that has to inspire some confidence that he can make the transition from quarterback to receiver. It also gives some hope that that right shoulder might be further along than anyone anticipated.

During Big Ten media days last week, coach Urban Meyer said he’d been working with Miller on his footwork, but that he had not seen him catch a ball.

“Feedback I'm getting from guys like JT and Cardale is that he's very athletic obviously and he can catch the ball,” Meyer said. “I've not seen him do that. I'm anxious to see him do that.”

Chances are when Meyer sees this video, he’ll be pleased with Miller’s progress.

  • DT Maquedius Bain leaves LSU days after reinstatement

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 19 hrs ago

LSU confirmed Monday that defensive tackle Maquedius Bain has left the program after the sophomore tweeted Monday that he was no longer with the Tigers.

Thank you LSU for the wonderful 2 1/2 years I attend in school and on the field but I will no longer be a LSU TIGER.

Thank you to everybody that support me through the ups and downs I appreciate everyone that ever support me Much love✊🏿

Bain was one of the three players reinstated to the team last week after authorities dropped charges against them for unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling. Bain, quarterback Anthony Jennings and defensive back Dwayne Thomas had been suspended since mid-June, but Friday the East Baton Rouge District Attorney decided not to pursue charges after the alleged victim asked charges be dropped.

All three players were welcomed back to the team Friday afternoon.

  • Under Armour unveils uniforms for Notre Dame, Maryland and Cincy (Photos)

The long-awaited unveiling of Notre Dame’s new Under Armour uniforms has finally arrived.

And don’t worry uniform purists, Under Armour actually showed some restraint.

STRONGER, LIGHTER & VIRTUALLY UNGRABBABLE. The new 2015 #NDFB jersey powered with #ARMOURGRID technology. pic.twitter.com/DcMA5y5WSn

The traditional look of Notre Dame’s uniform is unchanged. It’s the same gold helmets, pants and blue jerseys we’ve all come to know and love. Even the trim is roughly the same.

Not a big surprise that Under Armour stuck with tradition for Notre Dame’s everyday uniforms, especially since it likely will have a lot more creative freedom with the uniforms for the Shamrock Series. Those combinations were hit and miss (mostly miss) in the past few years under Adidas, so it will be interesting to see what Under Armour concocts.

  • Oklahoma State has new 'icy white' Pistol Pete helmets (Photo)

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 21 hrs ago

The long-awaited “icy white” version of Oklahoma State’s Pistol Pete helmets have finally been unveiled.

According to the site Pistols Firing, the helmet, which had been spotted in the spring, finally was put on display next to the orange version that made appearances last year.

[Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football: Sign up and join a league today!]

Have to say, this helmet is pretty sharp. Chrome against white is a clean combination and few teams can go wrong with a caricature throwback logo.

No word yet on when these helmets will actually see the field, but we’re guessing they probably will be reserved for one of the more anticipated games on the schedule.

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 21 hrs ago

Former broadcaster Craig James is suing Fox Sports in Dallas for religious discrimination.

In 2013, Fox Sports Southwest fired James two days after it hired him upon learning of a statement he made in 2012 while running for the U.S. Senate. During a debate that involved Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and Ted Cruz, James said that being gay is a choice and that “right now in this country, our moral fiber is sliding down a slope that is going to be hard to stop if we don’t stand up with leaders who don’t go ride in gay parades. I can assure you I will never ride in a gay parade.”

Fox Sports Southwest Senior Vice President of Communications Lou D’Ermilio took issue with the comments.

Auburn actually powered its $13.9 million scoreboard on Friday during the course of several hours. The school took a time-lapse video of the process and posted it to its YouTube page.

The construction and installation of the board took about three months and coach Gus Malzahn said during SEC media days he was eager to practice with it on. Auburn fall camp begins Aug. 4.
