Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long became emotional Tuesday night as he talked about his decision to fire coach Bobby Petrino.

Petrino was fired for cause after engaging in an inappropriate relationship with 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell and then using his position as the football coach to hire her as a student-athlete development coordinator in March.

"By itself, coach Petrino's consensual relationship with Miss Dorrell prior to her joining the football staff was not against University policy," Long said during a press conference Tuesday evening. "By itself, it's a matter between individuals and their families. However, in this case, coach Petrino abused his authority over the past few weeks. He made a staff decision and personal choices that benefited himself and jeopardized the integrity of the football program.

"In short, coach Petrino engaged in a pattern of misleading and manipulative behavior designed to deceive me and members of the athletic staff both before and after the motorcycle accident. He used athletic department funds to hire for his staff a person with whom he had had an inappropriate relationship. He engaged in reckless and unacceptable behavior that put his relationship in the national spotlight."

Since news surfaced the Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino was with a female passenger at the time of his motorcycle accident on April 1, Petrino's position as the Razorbacks coach has been in limbo.

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said he would review all of the information and eventually make a decision about Petrino's future. Meanwhile, the entire ordeal has split both the Arkansas and national football community.

Should Petrino stay or should he go?

Houston is a year away from making its foray into the Big East and to celebrate the occasion the school has decided to go through a rebranding.

Houston totally redesigned its website and unveiled a couple new logos. The newly designed "UH" logo is classic with the U intertwined with H, no problem there. It's the mascot logo that has us scratching our heads a little bit. It's basically a current version of the Thundercats logo. Remember the Thundercats? It was cartoon about cats that kinda looked like men and saved the world against evil in the early 80s.

The Houston Cougars are Thundercats 2.0.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing considering they did fight evil and all that.

OK, perhaps its Thundercats meets the K-State Powercat. Either way, I thought Houston's old logo was fine. Not sure why they felt the need to change it. I get that it's out with the old and in with the new, but sometimes if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it (yes, that was a cliché rant).

Three Colorado State football players have been suspended indefinitely after being accused of the "savage beating" of four freshmen after a party late Friday night.

Junior defensive end Nordly Capi, junior linebacker Mike Orakpo and junior defensive end Colton Paulhus are all accused in the beating that left the four victims with swollen eyes, chipped teeth, cuts and bruises. One victim, 20-year-old Donny Gocha, even had a boot print on his back.

The four freshmen were jumped on the street while walking home from the party and police were called to the scene. All four were taken away in an ambulance.

"Know this, that the harshest form that we could do is to indefinitely suspend until all the facts are out there," coach John McElwain told reporters at a news conference Monday. "... This is unacceptable in this program, it's unacceptable to this university, and until we get all the facts, we're totally cooperating in every way, shape or form that we can, so we get what really is out."

The Facebook page "Team Save Coach Petrino" has gained a lot of traction in the past couple days, but the rally it was trying to promote Monday evening fell flat.

The site asked its members to meet at The Gardens, a popular tailgating spot on the Arkansas campus, to rally in support of coach Bobby Petrino in hopes of persuading athletic director Jeff Long to not fire him. However, according to ArkansasSports360.com, only about 200 people showed up in non-virtual support, making it easy to question how many people would actually be willing to stand up for Petrino?

ArkasnasSports360.com reporter Chris Bahn tweeted Tuesday that the number of people on the Team Save Coach Petrino Facebook page, which was at more than 20,000 members at the time of this posting, was fraudulent and that many had been added to the group without their consent or knowledge.

Last Thursday, Arkansas placed Petrino on administrative leave after he revealed he had engaged in an "inappropriate relationship" with Jessica Dorrell, a 25-year-old female subordinate who was a passenger on his motorcycle when it crashed.

Rally organizer Matt Couch told the website he didn't approve of Petrino's actions, but that he didn't think he should be fired for them.

"We're not condoning it. I wouldn't ask him for marriage counseling," Couch told the website "But at the same time we're supportive of him and want him to do well."

Well, at least one person is off the hook in the Bobby Petrino-Jessica Dorrell scandal — the Arkansas State policeman who escorted Petrino to the hospital.

Capt. Lance King, who has worked sideline assignments for Arkansas football since 2003, has been cleared of any wrongdoing in how he handled Petrino's motorcycle accident on April 1.

King provided Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long and ultimately the public a long narrative about his role in the event. In it, King said he called Petrino's cell phone after he was alerted by another officer that Petrino's motorcycle had crashed. His call was not answered, but a woman called him back a couple minutes later and requested that King meet her and Petrino in a parking lot so he could take Petrino to the hospital. King states emphatically that he did not know the woman and didn't provide her name until near the end of the narrative.

The "Duel in the Desert" kicked off a little early this year with Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez and Arizona State's coach Todd Graham simultaneously throwing out the first pitch for last Friday's Arizona Diamondbacks home opener.

Rodriguez said in an earlier interview that he hadn't played much baseball since his high school days and it definitely showed. Rodriguez threw a high ball while Graham threw a rocket right down the middle. Apparently, someone didn't want to be shown up by the cross-state rival in his own town.

"I got a little adrenaline pumping so I thought I'd try to throw one in there pretty good," Graham said. "I smoked one in there. Yeah, I was pretty excited."
