  • ASU LB Davon Durant pleads guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 12 hrs ago

Suspended Arizona State linebacker Davon Durant pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct on Thursday.

According to Maricopa County Superior Court, Durant changed his plea to guilty for the lesser charge and other charges will be dropped. Durant was initially arrested on charges of aggravated assault.

Durant, a four-star linebacker from Butler County Community College in Kansas, was arrested March 7 after witnesses said they saw a man striking a woman while the two were sitting in an SUV. Durant’s girlfriend, Kelsi Langely, told the police he hit her in the face and grabbed her around the neck. Police said they observed injuries consistent with the Langley’s claims.

Durant said the altercation was verbal.

Even though police acknowledged Langley’s statement, they said because independent witnesses had seen the altercation and there were bruises on Langley’s face and neck, the police had reason to arrest and charge Durant.

  • Let's all admire Baker Mayfield's perfect execution of the 'Whip' (Video)

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 15 hrs ago

If the Oklahoma starting quarterback race were determined by who had the best dancing skills, Baker Mayfield would win hands down.

The junior put in work while showing all his teammates how to do the “Whip.”

    Wurk. 😂💯 @BM_ShakeIT11 pic.twitter.com/4VKmU0XRTc

Seriously, this is just fantastic. But we shouldn’t be all that surprised. Mayfield, who’s Twitter handle is @BM_ShakeIT11, was often caught dancing in both the Texas Tech and Oklahoma locker rooms and occasionally, someone would upload it to social media.

How can coach Bob Stoops keep this kind of talent off the field?

  • QB Everett Golson looking for a 'fresh start' with Florida State

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 15 hrs ago

Former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson said the need for a “fresh start” was the reason he decided to leave Notre Dame and transfer to Florida State.

Golson announced his transfer decision last week, but did an interview with Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman on Thursday to explain his decision.

"It's something that's pretty crazy right now for me to adjust to, but I do think it was best for me," Golson said. "I just needed a fresh start. It was me sitting down and thinking, 'OK, where do I feel the most comfortable?' It was nothing to knock Notre Dame. I just had to put myself in the best position possible.

"The good thing about me being in the position — I'm not an 18-year-old kid. I asked a bunch of questions. I'm 22 and could really get into where's the best place that you can succeed and help the team's success.”

  • Clemson's Dabo Swinney to appear at anti-gay group fundraiser

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 2 days ago

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is scheduled to appear at a fundraiser for the Palmetto Family Council, which has drawn the ire of several people who are calling for him to back out of the engagement.

The Palmetto Family Council is a conservative advocacy group that opposes same-sex marriage and abortion.

“I find it highly inappropriate that Coach Swinney would appear at a fundraiser for an organization that is so openly discriminatory and politically motivated,” House Minority Leader Todd Rutherford, D-Richland, said in a statement released to The State. “I cannot fathom why Coach Swinney or anyone else would knowingly assist a group whose mission is to fight against equal rights and equal treatment of others.”

According to the Family Council website, its No. 1 goal is keep the “traditional family model” in South Carolina.

"Our vision is to transform the culture in South Carolina by promoting the values and virtues of marriage, the traditional family model, and sexual purity."

  • D-III player who suffered major spinal cord injury walks at graduation (Video)

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 2 days ago

Memorial Day should be about honor and inspiration, and one former football player added some of the latter during his college graduation on Saturday.

Chris Norton, a former player for Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, walked across the stage to receive his diploma a little more than five years after doctors told him he had a three percent of regaining movement after suffering a fractured neck and a compressed spinal cord.

On Oct. 26, 2010, Norton, then a freshman at Lutheran, was covering a kickoff when an opposing player’s knee came up and knocked Norton in the head. He was motionless and had to be airlifted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

“They told me there was a three percent chance of any kind of movement below the injury site,” Chris said in a 2011 interview with Des Moines television station KCCI. “So that was definitely a big blow. But it never really seemed real. Just knew right from the beginning that that wasn’t going to be the case and that I was going to be able to walk and be able to move again.”

  • Even weddings aren't immune to Urban Meyer's photobombing

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 2 days ago

Urban Meyer spent Memorial Day taking in one of his favorite pastimes — photobombing.

Yes, America’s favorite photobombing coach was at it again this past weekend, tainting a picture with a blushing bride.

For gosh sake, you'd think master photobomber could shut it down at a WEDDING! @OSUCoachMeyer @AmyHalpin @Nicki_07 pic.twitter.com/erhpWmKwVN

I think we can all appreciate Shelley Meyer calling out her husband’s addiction. After all, this isn’t his first photobomb. There was that one time he was caught photobombing a couple at a party. And then that one time he photobombed a recruit. And, of course, the one time he was called out for photobombing his own family, which prompted the hashtag “#urbphotobomb.”

  • Iowa QB C.J. Beathard trims hair for charity (Photo)

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 6 days ago

Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard was named starter after replacing Jake Rudock against Tennessee during the TaxSlayer Bowl and apparently thought now would be a good time to refine his image.

Beathard had been known for his long blonde hair that he said took him three years to grow, but now those locks are going to Wigs for Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides hair replacement for children undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, or suffering from Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues.

Just my personal opinion, but Beathard seems to rock hipster way better than hippy.

And it should play well with all the television cameras now that Beathard is face of the Iowa program and the hope for the first season with more than eight wins since 2009.

  • The heartbreaking story of Chris Moon: Baseball prospect turned war hero

Graham Watson at Yahoo Sports 7 days ago

TUCSON, Ariz. – On a perch overlooking the pristine baseball diamonds of Cherry Field is the prospective site of a memorial dedicated to one of the finest athletes Tucson has ever known.

Chris Moon was a pitcher who threw more than 90 mph and a center fielder who could throw out a base runner with precision. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the late rounds of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but instead accepted a partial scholarship to his dream school, the University of Arizona.

Moon seemingly had everything going for him, but while friends and family had grand visions of watching him play professional baseball, he longed for a different challenge.

In fall 2007, just a semester into his first year at Arizona, Moon told Wildcats coach Andy Lopez he was quitting the team to join the Army. Lopez spent more than an hour trying to talk Moon out of his decision.

But Moon's mind was made up.

"He was legit," Lopez said. "I personally think that if he would have played here three years … I'm not sure he would have been a big leaguer, but he would have had an opportunity to play professional baseball."

Less than two years later, Moon was dead at age 20.

  • Northern Illinois wants fan input on its 2015 field design

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 7 days ago

Northern Illinois is looking for a new field design for 2015 and it's looking for fan input.

Here's the catch though, the field design has already been chosen. Yes, this is a slow reveal. We know, we know. The school posted six designs on its Instagram and would like feedback, but the choice has already been made.

Here are the designs via NIU’s Instagram account:

Personally, I like the first choice with outline of the Huskie, but I’m also a gravitating to the last option with the alternating yard lines. Maybe the Huskies should make it easy on everyone and just change their field design for every home game in 2015.

    Which one would you pick?
