The injuries are not life threatening, but Bain’s family requested they not be disclosed.

“His FAU football family has surrounded him with support and will continue to do so,” coach Charlie Partridge said in a statement. “Out of respect to Reggie, his family and our team, all questions should only be directed to me. I know that inquiries may be well-intentioned, under the HIPPA law, and per the request of Reggie and his family, there is very little I can disclose.”

  • QB Davis Webb stars in Cal debut win against Hawaii

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 1 day ago

Any fears that Cal would take a step back offensively by losing quarterback Jared Goff were assuaged Friday as new starter Davis Webb threw for more than 400 yards in his Bears’ debut.

Cal defeated Hawaii 51-31 in front of 61,247 fans in the inaugural Sydney Cup in Australia, which marked the official start to the college football season. The game was the first collegiate contest for the city and an attempt to show Sydney had the ability to host a major college football bowl game in the future.

And Webb did his best to give the fans a good show.

Webb, a Texas Tech transfer, didn’t have much of a learning curve since he ran a similar offense in Lubbock, and his Air Raid acumen showed up early. He made several first-half connections with receiver Chad Hansen, who had 14 catches for 160 yards and two first-half touchdowns.

With this game in the books, there’s just one week until the rest of the college football season gets underway.

  • Dr. Saturday's Coaches on the Hot Seat

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 2 days ago

College football coaching is a competitive business and if you’re not winning now, you could find yourself out of a job.

Several coaches are facing that very real possibility as we head into the 2016 season after struggling the season before. It’s never too early to get the coaching carousel up and running, so here’s a look at the Top 10 coaches facing the hot seat this season.

Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M It wasn’t long ago when Sumlin was the king of College Station. In his first year with the program, Sumlin won 11 games and had a Heisman Trophy winner in quarterback Johnny Manziel. The school started investing in the program by upgrading its facilities and giving Sumlin a raise. However, the honeymoon was short-lived and the Aggies’ win totals have declined while off-field incidents involving players and coaches have been on the rise. Still Sumlin has won 36 games in four seasons at A&M, more than any Aggie coach in a four-year span since R.C. Slocum in the early 90s.

  • Girlfriend of ND CB Devin Butler says police assaulted him

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 3 days ago

The girlfriend of Notre Dame cornerback Devin Butler said the accusations that Butler was violent with police officers outside of a South Bend bar are false.

Butler’s girlfriend Haleigh Bailey, told the South Bend Tribune she was with Butler when the incident occurred and that the reports are not accurate.

“I was there that entire night,” Bailey told the paper. “Reports say that everyone left the scene but I was still there and saw everything officers did to Devin.

“He was abused, and wrongly arrested. He never tackled an officer and he never intentionally hurt anyone. He had no reason to be tazed because he was never resisting arrest, and he was already on the ground complying when they tazed him.”

According to PullmanRadio.com, Luani became verbally abusive because his order was taking too long. A manger offered Luani his money back, but Luani continued to be confrontational.

    — Rafe Peavey (@IThrowFootballs) August 24, 2016

Peavey was competing for the backup job behind Austin Allen, who was named starter back in the spring. Peavey had also said in previous interviews that despite not being the starter, he had no intention of leaving the program.

“I’m going to stay regardless,” Peavey told the Arkansas News in April. “Been committed here since sophomore year of high school. I’ve never had any doubt. This is the place God wants me to be. I have faith in that.”

Peavey was the No. 2 quarterback coming out of spring, but an offseason back issue pushed him back into a competition with Ty Storey and Cole Kelley. Peavey had participated in limited practice during fall camp while recovering.

  • Former Illinois coach Tim Beckman now a volunteer at UNC

Graham Watson at Dr. Saturday 4 days ago

Almost a year after being fired at Illinois, coach Tim Beckman has found another job.

According to the News-Gazette, Beckman has joined the North Carolina staff as a volunteer assistant with the defensive staff. North Carolina officials confirmed the report.

Beckman was fired last August after an external review into allegations found he discouraged players from reporting injuries. At the time, athletic director Mike Thomas stated that Beckman was terminated “based on the health and well-being of our student-athletes” and that “the findings don’t reflect the culture we are building with Illinois athletics.” Thomas was fired months later.

Beckman, who went 12-25 overall with the Illini and 4-20 in Big Ten, denied the allegations.

North Carolina coach Larry Fedora and Beckman do have a history as they worked together at Oklahoma State in 2007.

Fedora is scheduled to meet with the media Wednesday afternoon.
