If giving a great pregame speech was all there is to being a successful coach, Lance Guidry would already be heading up a major BCS program.

Guidry is the interim coach for Western Kentucky, and he fired up the Hilltoppers just before they took the field for the Little Caesars Bowl against Central Michigan.

About the Bearcats: Cincinnati had a pretty crazy season, and that didn't stop once the regular-season games were done. The Bearcats started 5-0, lost two road games in a row by a combined nine points, then on Nov. 3 against Syracuse the team made a quarterback change, bringing in Brendon Kay to replace Munchie Legaux. Kay played well in the final five games as the team won four, with a tough 10-3 loss to Rutgers as the only blemish. Then after the season, coach Butch Jones started talking to other teams about their vacancies, it appeared for a very short while that he might stay at Cincinnati, but then he took off to become Tennessee's next coach. He was quickly replaced by a surprise hire: Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville. Defensive line coach Steve Stripling will coach the Belk Bowl.

There are many reasons to love bowl season, one of which is the possibility of seeing USC coach Lane Kiffin sporting a sombrero.

Upon arrival in El Paso for the Sun Bowl, Kiffin was part of this photo opportunity, and this picture was tweeted out by USC's athletics account.

About the Spartans: San Jose State's near-upset of Stanford the first week of the season ended up revealing a lot more about the Spartans than the Cardinal. Stanford was obviously a pretty good team all season, and so was San Jose State. San Jose State's only other loss this season was to Utah State, a good team in its own right. San Jose State finished the year with six straight wins, ending with victories against BYU and Louisiana Tech. The Spartans' success did cost them their coach, however, as Mike MacIntyre moved on to be Colorado's head coach. Defensive coordinator Kent Baer will coach the Military Bowl, and it has been widely reported he will then join Colorado's staff after the game.

About the Hilltoppers: Since the end of the regular season, Western Kentucky had a pretty big shakeup. Coach Willie Taggart left to take the job at South Florida, and he was replaced by Bobby Petrino, a controversial and high-profile change. Interim coach Lance Guidry will coach the team in the bowl game, not Petrino, and this is a big moment for the Hilltoppers. This is the first bowl game for the program, which joined the FBS in 2009. Western Kentucky's season highlight came on Sept. 15 with a thrilling overtime win over Kentucky, and while the team struggled down the stretch losing four of five before a season-ending win against North Texas, it should be excited to play in a bowl game.

Tickets to the title game between Alabama and Notre Dame on Jan. 7 in Miami are extremely hard to come by - the cheapest ticket on StubHub.com as of mid-afternoon on Christmas was $979.

Don Buckhannan's reaction to getting the tickets from his son sums up the joyous spirit of the holidays.

Maybe you had heard of Margus Hunt before the Hawaii Bowl. If you don't know that much about Hunt and missed the Hawaii Bowl don't worry - you'll hear plenty about him between now and the NFL Draft.

The SMU defensive end with one of the most unique stories in college football controlled the first half against Fresno State and did wonders for his draft stock in the process. Like BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy in the Poinsettia Bowl, Hunt completely took over a bowl game as he wrecked the Bulldogs' offense.

In the first half, Hunt had three tackles for loss, two sacks, forced two fumbles and got a safety. SMU, which was a 12-point underdog, was up 22-0 at halftime thanks to the fact that Fresno State couldn't block Hunt. The Mustangs ended up with a convincing 43-10 win.

And where did this behemoth who runs like a defensive back come from? Good question.

He won the Heisman Trophy, which opened up a new world of celebrity for the Texas A&M quarterback. He seems to be enjoying that tremendously.

Manziel hung out in Central Park with his girlfriend, did David Letterman's Top Ten and then went on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (and, perhaps more notably, with actress Megan Fox). He went to a Rockets-Sixers game and did the Heisman pose with James Harden, then caused a stir when he sat courtside for a Mavs-Heat game - and he hammed it up with LeBron James afterward.
