Steve Spurrier doesn't really take South Carolina's spring game all that seriously, which is how star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney got to slip in off the bench during a play and score a 54-yard touchdown in street clothes.

Spurrier annually pulls the "off the bench" trick, in which a player comes in from off the bench behind the secondary for a deep pass. This time it was the All-American defensive end who has been out most of spring with a minor neck injury.

So if there's a 180-pound SEC cornerback worried that Clowney might start lining up wide for some plays this season, don't worry. It was just to have some fun.

(@uncfootball)North Carolina tweeted out some pictures of its new uniforms from its spring game, and while they're not a massive departure from what we've seen the Tar Heels wear already, they look pretty nice.

The dark numbers on the home and road jerseys are the biggest change. There have been some changes with the stripes on the helmets, with a few other alterations such as the stripes on the sleeve.

It's a sharp look. The picture at the top was tweeted out by @uncfootball, and here are a couple closer looks from @TarHeelMonthly:

(USA Today Sports Images)USA Today dropped a bit of a bombshell, with a story that stated former cornerback Tyrann Mathieu told NFL teams failed 10 drug tests and then just stopped counting. This information was attributed to an unnamed NFL assistant coach.

It was predictable that LSU would respond. What was a bit of a surprise was the school's rebuttal also included a statement by Mathieu, who was dismissed from LSU's team last year, to dispute the accounts in the story.

The story, on LSU's official website with a byline of associate athletic director and sports information director Michael Bonnette, says Mathieu "contacted LSU" about the USA Today story and it "does not accurately reflect the discussions that he has had while on official visits to various NFL organizations." This is Mathieu's statement:

TEAMS THAT COULD BREAK THE SEC'S BCS STREAK

NO. 1, NOBODY SO QUIT DREAMING

Here's the question: If I were to give you all the non-SEC teams to win this year's BCS Championship Game, and we took the SEC, would you take that wager?

If you did that every year, your losing streak would be at seven, and you'd be facing an uphill struggle to keep it from being eight.

There are two very simple factors in play here. The SEC is historically dominant and getting better. You could argue five of the seven most powerful teams in college football last year were from the SEC, and that's not even counting South Carolina, which was somewhere near the top 10. The conference is still getting better. Just look at the recruiting. Ole Miss seems ready to take a step forward. Tennessee can't be this bad forever. Neither can Arkansas or Auburn. The conference is loaded.

And the other factor is who is chasing the SEC. Oregon, Stanford, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Notre Dame ... they're all fine teams. You wouldn't take any of them on a neutral field against Alabama or Texas A&M, and neither would we.

(USA Today Sports Images)Lane Kiffin wants to forget about the 2012 season, never mention it again, and nobody can blame him.

Kiffin's USC team wasn't just bad, it was embarrassing at times. The season started with USC as the preseason No. 1, but then included Kiffin caught lying about his vote in the coaches poll, having players change jerseys against lowly Colorado for a trick play, a student manager deflating balls without Kiffin's knowledge (cough, cough), banning a reporter and walking out of a press conference for a common question about injuries, then at the bowl game USC reportedly stood Georgia Tech up at a pre-bowl dinner after his players had insulted El Paso for no good reason and had a fight among themselves after the game. Does that cover it all?

Oh, we forgot one other key part. USC became the first preseason No. 1 team to lose six games. Ever. The Wall Street Journal asked if it was the worst preseason No. 1 team of all time, and that was before the Trojans lost three more times. So on the field, USC might have been the worst preseason No. 1 team in history. Off the field, it might have been even worse.

So it makes sense Kiffin wants to forget, and it's good news that he's looked at himself in the mirror a bit this offseason.

(USA Today Sports Images)The Southeastern Conference is the undisputed king of college football. A dedicated SEC television network was obviously going to become a reality at some point, and now it's very close to being official.

Sports Business Daily reported that the SEC and ESPN will announce the creation of the channel next Tuesday. This network has been in the planning stages for more than a year, and the report says the network should officially launch in August of 2014.

There's no reason the network won't be a huge hit, with its rabid fan base and overall interest from around the country, and that will just make the league stronger. Even if that doesn't seem possible.

The absurdity of the NCAA and the college athletics system was summed up as only "The Daily Show" can.

And when even "The Daily Show" is piling on, you might have a legitimate image problem, NCAA.

The hilarious, sarcastic look at the NCAA includes interviews with Minnesota wrestler Joel Bauman, who had his eligibility taken away because of a rap song he made, and Ed O'Bannon, who is suing the NCAA for profiting off his and other athletes' likenesses in video games and DVDs.

The clip, titled "The NCAA's Perfectly Fair Rules," ends with "Daily Show' correspondent Aasif Mandvi talking to a phone, because the NCAA wouldn't grant an on-camera interview. No wonder. The NCAA would not want to be stuck in front of a camera trying to defend its ridiculous methods to "The Daily Show." The segment would have been even worse for the NCAA than it already was.

Michigan quarterbacks are wearing no-contact jerseys in the spring. That was necessary after backup Russell Bellomy tore his ACL. The last thing the Wolverines need is for Devin Gardner to get hurt.

In most practices in football, red is the universal jersey color for no-contact. But those are Buckeyes colors. Michigan needed some no-contact color, so it sought out an orange jersey from Oregon State, as MLive.com and Inside Unis said.
