This offseason we will count down various topics from Monday through Friday, bringing you the top five of the important and definitely some not so important issues in college football. It's the Doc Five, every week until we will thankfully have actual games to discuss.

PLAYERS WITH THE MOST TO LOSE OR GAIN BEFORE 2014 DRAFT

NO. 5, SAMMY WATKINS

For some players, the college season doubles as a job interview. Every interception Matt Barkley threw last season probably caused him grief over letting his USC teammates down, but his mistakes also cost him a ton of money. He tumbled down to the fourth round after regressing from his junior season.

At this time last year, various way-too-early mock drafts were touting players like Barkley, Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson and Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones as probable first-round picks. They all went in the fourth round last week. There are a lot of college players whose professional futures will change pretty dramatically based on what happens between now and the end of the season.

Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins is one of the players whose resume could change the most based on what his 2013 season looks like.

Watkins is still considered to be one of the elite prospects in college football, and he can enter the NFL draft after this season. Most of that is based on what he did as a freshman, because his sophomore season was not first-round worthy.

Watkins was unbelievable as a freshman. He had 82 catches for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has good size and great athletic ability, and looked like a can't-miss star.

What started out as a nice ceremonial play in Nebraska's spring game has ended up with 7-year-old Jack Hoffman making a run to the White House.

Hoffman, who is ba1ttling brain cancer and provided one of the year's best moments when he ran for a touchdown in the Cornhuskers' spring game, and his family are in Washington D.C. and will meet President Barack Obama, according to Nebraska's official blog. The post said the family was invited to the meeting, and Jack Hoffman's father Andy was hopeful it came off as planned.

That's a pretty incredible month for a little boy.

Anything written in this space about the SEC will inevitably bring about cries of that conference being overrated or a "media creation," which is funny, silly and about as wrong as you can imagine.

If we needed another indication of the SEC's dominance over the rest of college football, how is this: Counted separately, the SEC East division and the SEC West division had as many or more draft picks than any other conference in college football.

Yes, the SEC East had more than the Big 12. The SEC West had more than the Big Ten.

The only competitor was the ACC, whose 31 draft picks last week were tied with the SEC West. The SEC East had 32 draft picks. The Pac-12 was next with 28.

So, obviously, the SEC had more than twice as many draft picks, at 63, as any two conferences put together. Those 63 picks in one draft is a record for a conference. Might as well move the NFL draft from New York to Atlanta to cut down on travel expenses for the players.

It was obvious early in the draft that the SEC was going to have a great week. Of the first 99 picks, 33 came from SEC schools. The pace slowed down in the later rounds to let the Big Ten, Pac-12, ACC and Big 12 catch up, but just a little. The SEC ended up producing 24.8 percent of the players selected in the entire draft. If the never-ending streak of BCS titles didn't prove the SEC's dominance, those draft stats probably should.

(USA Today Sports Images)The Big Ten's decision to name its divisions Legends and Leaders will go down as one of the more humorous failures in marketing history.

At least the conference recognized it and moved on. The league's presidents and chancellors approved a plan to go with the traditional East and West division names. That will begin when 2014. That's when Rutgers and Maryland join, and while that's a marketing fiasco as well, that's a story for another day.

The more important news is the conference will go to a nine-game league schedule starting in 2016.

(UCLABruins.com)UCLA defensive back Marcus Rios was at the top of the Bruins' depth chart at cornerback entering spring football, but his main goal now is to just get well.

Rios has a rare fungus infection in his sinus area, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was diagnosed with it last year, and not only is it extremely rare, the end result is usually death. He will undergo another surgery in the next couple weeks, and that will keep him out for the season, the Times said.

From the Times' report:

Rios said that “it’s very rare. Only 12 people have ever had it and eight of them have died. Two others recovered and then died later.”

That's certainly frightening. Rios told the Times the infection was found behind his eye and beneath this brain.

Honolulu scheduled a big parade Saturday afternoon as a celebration for native son Manti Te'o on the weekend he was drafted into the NFL. The city gave a $2,000 grant for the event, according to Hawaii News Now, and the story said the remaining cost was picked up mainly by residents of Laie and Kahuku.

Tents were set up, food was cooked, but nobody stopped to think about the guest of honor's availability. Oops.

When a player is drafted in the NFL, the team flies him out the next day to meet the coaches, tour the facilities and have a press conference. This happens for practically every high draft pick. Nobody planning the parade in Hawaii could be expected to know that, but it must have been quite the scene when the organizers figured out that Te'o had to be in San Diego when his parade was scheduled. The Chargers selected Te'o, the decorated Notre Dame linebacker, on Friday in the second round of the NFL draft.

The parade went on as planned, Hawaii News Now said.

(USA Today Sports Images)One of the brightest spots in the LSU offense over the second half of last season was freshman running back Jeremy Hill.

Hill was fantastic late in the season. The question with him was never talent, but off-field issues. He was in LSU's 2011 recruiting class but his arrival was delayed a year after he was arrested on charges of oral sexual battery.

And according multiple reports, Hill is back in legal trouble.

Reports including the New Orleans Times-Picayune and Baton Rouge Advocate said Hill was arrested on simple battery early Saturday morning. He was released on $500 bond.

UPDATE: On Monday, LSU suspended Hill indefinitely:

LSU RB Jeremy Hill has been indefinitely suspended from team for his involvement in off-campus incident over the weekend.

According to some details from the Advocate's Matthew Harris, this incident could have some long-term implications.

(USA Today Sports Images)The Green Bay Packers are a passing team, and a very successful one. They have won 36 regular season games, two division titles and a Super Bowl the last three years with almost nothing out of the running game.

The NFL is a passing league, and only the Saints might epitomize that more than the Packers. Green Bay hasn't had a 100-yard rusher since Week 5 of the 2010 season, and is still winning at about a 75 percent clip during the last three seasons.

All of that makes Green Bay's selection of running backs Eddie Lacy in the second round and Johnathan Franklin in the fourth round very interesting.

It's hard to imagine the Packers want to be a totally balanced offense, considering they just gave quarterback Aaron Rodgers a $110 million extension to make him the highest paid player in NFL history. Green Bay's identity is tied into Rodgers throwing the ball, and they'd be crazy to change that formula too much.

The Packers' thought has to be that in the best-case scenario, they stick to the same approximate 57-43 pass-run ratio they've had the last three years, but they're much better in that 43 percent with Lacy and Franklin rather than guys like James Starks and DuJuan Harris wasting plays. And as a result, a more effective running game makes Rodgers even better.
