    • Video: Eduardo Najera grabs a Jazz fan's beer

Few energy players have profiles as large as that of Bobcats forward Eduardo Najera(notes), the second Mexican-born player in NBA history and a popular endorser south of the border. On top of that fame, he's carved out a nice niche for himself as a do-anything energy guy willing to change teams as often as the vagaries of the collective bargaining agreement demand. Najera approaches the sport like it's a serious job, and that attitude comes through in his on-court style and off-court personality.

Still, that doesn't mean he can't make a joke every once in a while. Just more than halfway into the second quarter of Monday night's 83-78 loss to the Jazz in Salt Lake City, Najera bounded into the first row of fans near halfcourt while chasing after a loose ball. After getting up from the startled Utahans, Najera stole one's beer and playfully pretended to take a sip. Except he couldn't because there was barely any left and he would probably be suspended for months for consuming alcohol on

    • Days of NBA Lives: Wherein Steve Nash has body issues

At this point, seemingly half the NBA is on Twitter. It's a wild world of training updates, questions as to which movies they should go see, and explanations of their Call of Duty prowess. Every so often, though, you also get a picture into the more interesting aspects of NBA life. This feature is your window into that world.

    • Video: The 2nd trailer for 'The Black Mamba,' with Kobe and Kanye

Kobe Bryant(notes) can sometimes be a tough player for Nike to market, both because he's incredibly divisive and because his media image of "relentless winner with few friends" makes him someone to be appreciated rather than identified with. Unlike Michael Jordan, he can't combine a near-psychotic need to be the best with mass appeal.

So Nike has decided to put him in a bizarre long-form commercial directed by Robert Rodriguez ("Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams," "The Adventure of Sharkboy and Lavagirl"). The second trailer can be viewed above, and it looks like classic Rodriguez: guest cameos, genre trash, and a knowing wink so everyone knows nothing is too serious. Plus, it features Kanye West, Danny Trejo, and Bruce Willis.

Rodriguez's typical reliance on ironic reproductions of old genre staples makes him an odd person to direct a commercial for Kobe, who takes everything associated with basketball fully seriously. But there's a common belief that the most enjoyable camp art

    • Rockets to search for treasure in Staples Center

Last season, Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers famously hid $2,500 in the visitors' locker room at Staples Center for his team to collect upon its return for the NBA Finals. It was a motivational tool, and if it hadn't worked then I suppose Rivers would've just picked it up the next season and gone on his merry way. If it'd been lost in the offseason, well, Rivers has plenty of other money to keep him happy.

As you probably heard, the Celtics visited Los Angeles on Sunday to face the Lakers. Except, according to Rivers, he didn't do it this year. But that won't stop Luis Scola(notes) and his teammates from looking anyway when they visit Staples Center for Tueday's game against the Lakers. From Jonathan Feigen for the Houston Chronicle:

As the next team to use the Staples Center visitors' locker room, the Rockets said that if Rivers left buried treasure, it wouldn't be waiting for him this time.

"I'm going to be the one," said forward Luis Scola. "I'll find it. If there's money in

    • Kevin Durant calls Chris Bosh a 'fake tough guy'

As we all learned during the Team USA media onslaught at last summer's world championships, Kevin Durant(notes) is the nicest young superstar the league has seen in ages. In addition to scoring tons of points and leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to the postseason, he is courteous to reporters, kind to teammates and generally seems more grounded than other players who get voted to be All-Star starters. You wouldn't mind seeing your son be his friend or your daughter bringing him home.

It turns out he is capable of getting very angry, though. During the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Miami Heat in OKC, Durant and Chris Bosh(notes) got in a bit of a verbal argument that earned both technicals. After the game, the NBA's nicest player was asked about it, and he responded with the kind of comments not typically associated with him. From Art Garcia on NBA.com:

"I was talking to my teammate and [Bosh] decided he wanted to put his two cents into it," Durant explained after the 108-103

    • Another take on Kobe Bryant's relative clutchness

As Mr. Dwyer explained a little bit ago, this post by Henry Abbott on TrueHoop has taken our basketball corner of the Internet by storm Friday for claiming that Kobe Bryant(notes) is not as clutch as everyone thinks. By the numbers, Kobe makes a little less than one of every three shots when his team is down two, down one, or tied on the final possession, which makes him one of the worst performers among players with at least 30 attempts in those situations. Kobe also rates poorly in all situations in the final five minutes or overtime.

This is obviously surprising given his reputation as the best closer in the NBA. But the fact remains that Kobe does have this reputation, and it's there that we must question why it persists even if the numbers claim it's wrong.

The most obvious reason is that laymen and commentators across North America say Kobe's the best in late-game situations. Those comments feed upon itself, and eventually everyone just accepts that Kobe owns the fourth quarter.

    • Bill Walton calls Celtics vs. Blazers for Boston-area TV

After a few years on the sidelines, Bill Walton is back in the public eye. With diminished back and joint pain, he's now calling the occasional game for Sacramento Kings broadcasts and generally bringing the same hyperbolic passion for basketball and life that made him a love/hate figure in the booth for NBC and ESPN.

Thursday night, Walton worked with Celtics play-by-play man Michael Gorman on Boston-area coverage of the Celtics' 88-78 win over the Blazers in Portland. And, not surprisingly, he had some hilarious comments. Here they are, as compiled by Paul Flannery for WEEI.com (via TBJ):

On oft-injured Portland center Greg Oden(notes):

He should move to Hawaii, lose a ton of weight and start all over... become a yoga master.

On former Pistons Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn and Dennis Rodman:

They just made those decisions. That they were going to break all the rules of human decency.

      On Ray Allen's(notes) shooting form:

Flawless ... like Yosemite Falls coming right through the rim.

    • Big news: Fans to pick the Skills Challenge participants

Do you like watching players dribble through cones? What about uncontested jumpers from the top of the key? And seeing guys try to make bounce passes into peach baskets? You'd be a fool if you didn't answer yes to all three questions, and that's why the Taco Bell Skills Challenge is perhaps the most popular of All-Star Weekend events.

But it sometimes seems a little stuffy, in large part because the league picks the participants. That's why, this year, Taco Bell is putting the vote in the hands of the fans. Let's all celebrate with a Five Buck Box! It rocks, it rocks!

Chris Paul(notes) has already been named to the competition, but here are your choices for his four challengers: Baron Davis(notes), Tyreke Evans(notes), Derek Fisher(notes), Tony Parker(notes), Stephen Curry(notes), Derrick Rose(notes), John Wall(notes), and Russell Westbrook(notes). How could you possibly narrow that list down?

Everyone here is an established star or up-and-comer with the notable exceptions of Baron
