Bakers dozen: To be fair to the Gnats, the Dodgers only led 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth. So D.C. was trying to win, and let's all get excited about that. In the fateful sixth, the Dodgers opened 'er up with a seven spot and that was that. The Dodgers are 13-0 at home, the best start in major league history, one better than the 1911 Tigers.

Tim Lincecum(notes) says he loves pitching at Wrigley Field and his performance there on Tuesday suggested as much.

If Lincecum, the scrawny right-hander who throws harder than seems possible, reminds you of 12-year-old Henry Rowengartner, well, Lincecum says there are good reasons for that.

Grand slams: Ryan Howard, a genuine St. Lunatic, came home in fine fashion by slugging a slam against Kyle Lohse. No matter that his team was down five runs in the eighth, Ankiel gave an all-out effort on Pedro Feliz's drive into the left-center gap. Ankiel caught the fly ball but stumbled on the track and did a header into the padded fence. And this isn't like Aaron Rowand semi-comically smashing his face into a fence. This makes you just cringe. Ankiel was able to raise his arms at the final moment before contact, but his head and neck appeared to take the brunt of the impact.

LA sets club record for best start at home

The formula is simple: Road team + Dodger Dogs = Defeat. It's happened every game so far at Dodger Stadium, where the home field advantage has never been greater. Not ever, in the past 125 years — no matter what they've been called* — have the Dodgers started this well at home.

Further, 10-0 is the best start for any team at home since Joe Torre's Braves did the same at Fulton County Stadium in 1983. The 1970 Cubs and 1918 Giants also went 10-0.

Comic relief: Some things never cease to be funny. A man wearing a dress. Dogs playing poker. A position player pitching in a major league game. No matter how hard the position player tries, no matter if he "pitched in high school," no matter how much he "can do Sandy Koufax's windup — just watch," he just can't replicate a major league delivery. It always looks like batting practice, or like a series of ceremonial first pitches by a non-athlete dignitary, or like the guy's back hurts.
