  • High Fives: Striking it rich

Brandon Funston at Yahoo Sports 2 days ago

    3. Joe Panik, 2B, SF - Not massive upside here, but this is still a young player who posted a .378 OBP last season

    3. Marcell Ozuna, Mia - He hit 23 homers as a 23-year-old. Would be foolish to give up on him

     3. Kevin Gausman, Bal -  He had a 10.9 SwStr% last year

    3.  Cincinnati -  J.J. Hoover looks like the favorite, and his career 10.1 SwStr% is very solid

    3. George Brett - If only to hear his infamous story that happened in Las Vegas in person

  • High Fives: Possible fantasy risers and fallers in spring training

Brandon Funston at Yahoo Sports 9 days ago

With Yahoo Fantasy Baseball '16 open for business, Brandon Funston, Dalton Del Don and Scott Pianowski decided to bat around a few top-5 topics for the coming season, starting with the biggest likely draft-day movers this spring. Let's get to it ...

[2016 Yahoo Fantasy Baseball is open for business. Sign up now]

    3.  Kyle Schwarber, ChC -  He's the clear No. 2 catcher who will barely play the position. There's huge upside here

    3. Troy Tulowitzki, Tor - Shortstop remains thin, but he had a .697 OPS after leaving the Rockies last season

    3.  Justin Turner, LAD -  Coming off microfracture surgery, so availability remains a question. He can hit though

    3. Colorado Rockies - Not sure if this counts, but it's always safe to bet on Coors Field

  • Divisional DFS Start/Sit: Play your Cards right

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 28 days ago

Here's a few DFS plays to cash in on this divisional playoff week, in addition to a few premium-priced players to avoid. And be sure to check back in on the key injuries (Rob Gronkowski, Jeremy Maclin, Marshawn Lynch, et al) all the way up to kickoff, as those players' participation (or not) this weekend could certainly have a significant impact on the DFS lineup you choose.

QB - Russell Wilson, Sea at Car ($33 in DFS) - The weather is expected to be about 50 degrees warmer at game time this Sunday than it was for Wilson last week, which should make for much more accommodating conditions in the passing game. And Wilson is facing a Panthers squad that has lost two of its top three corners (Charles Tillman, Bene Benwikere) in the past few weeks. Wilson has a good shot at something in the neighborhood of 250-plus passing yards, 30-plus rushing yards and a couple TD tosses this weekend, which would be a very solid return on the investment.

  • Wild Card DFS Start/Sit: Go Ware, not West

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 1 mth ago

Here's a few budget-priced DFS plays to cash in on this wild card week, in addition to a few premium-priced players to avoid. Best wishes for a fabulous kick off to your fantasy New Year this weekend.

QB - A.J. McCarron, Cin vs Pit  ($25 in DFS) - McCarron is the second-cheapest starting QB option in DFS. I'll take that value against a Pittsburgh defense that, while staunch against the run, has proven vulnerable versus the pass (third-most passing yards allowed). McCarron provided reason for optimism in this week's matchup by posting a respectable 280 yards and two touchdown passes (also two interceptions) in a meeting with Pittsburgh in early December.

  • Week 17 DFS Start/Sit: A.J. Green, the color of money

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 1 mth ago

Here's a few DFS plays to cash in on this week, and a few to avoid at the current cost. Best wishes in the final regular-season week of the 2015 season, and happy New Year!

QB - Brock Osweiler, Den vs SDG  ($27 in DFS) - The Chargers will be without secondary staples in CB Jason Verrett and FS Eric Weddle. Both have received extremely high marks in pass coverage this season. Expect Osweiler to take advantage of that situation.

[Yahoo Daily Fantasy: $10 could win you $20K in our $200K contest for Week 17]

RB - Rashad Jennings, NYG vs Phi ($14) - Volume is no longer an issue for Jennings, as he's had at least 16 touches in each of the past three games, averaging the seventh-most fantasy PPG at the RB position in that span. The Eagles have allowed the second-most fantasy PPG to running backs in the past 10 weeks, so a healthy workload should lead to success for Jennings.

  • Big Board: Beckham, Brown best bets for '16

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 1 mth ago

The Big Board takes into consideration past returns, current performance and expected future gains in determining who should be included among the top 50 fantasy football players. Essentially, the Big Board is a cheat sheet designed for a fantasy owner who is planning to participate in a draft today. Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football default scoring settings are used as the baseline for the Big Board.

(Note: This football Big Board update is the first look ahead at the 2016 season)

  • Top Takeaways of 2015: Receiver reliability, running back liability

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 1 mth ago

    1. At QB, it's cream or stream

"Cream or stream" is a pithy way of saying that if you don't take one of the very elite fantasy QBs in your draft next season, you may want to consider waiting to near the bitter end of your draft to take a signal caller.

We saw in 2015 how fungible the middle class at fantasy QB has become. It used to be that if you didn't land an elite QB, there were still rock solid next-tier options (Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Philip Rivers, Matthew Stafford, Eli Manning, et al) to turn to that were still preferable to the abyss that was the bottom half of the NFL's crop of starting QBs. But in 2015, you were better off streaming a Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr and (if the matchup was particularly juicy) even a Josh McCown or Brian Hoyer than standing firm with some supposed next-tier option like those I already mentioned. Heck, even Drew Brees (especially on the road) and Aaron Rodgers dropped out of the can't-bench class.

     2. Round 1 Running Back - good luck with that

     3. The Tight End revolution is going stronger than ever

  • Week 16 Start/Sit: Spending the holiday with Cousins

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 1 mth ago

All the marbles are on the line as Fantasy Championship Week has arrived (for Yahoo default leagues).  To help you avoid some potential Week 16 pitfalls (full season or daily), here's a few players I expect to look better/worse than usual on Saturday/Sunday/Monday. May you holiday wishes - touchdowns, touchdowns and more touchdowns - come true!

QB - Kirk Cousins, Was at Phi  ($32 in DFS) - Cousins has been a top 6 fantasy QB since Week 7, throwing for 300-plus yards five times in that eight-game span. The health of DeSean Jackson has allowed the Redskins to finally stretch the field vertically. Against a Philly defense allowing the third-most fantasy points to the QB position, Cousins has top 10 upside this week.

  • Week 14 Start/Sit: Trust in Lacy

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 2 mths ago

The first week of the fantasy playoffs has arrived (for Yahoo default leagues), which means a poor lineup decision could prove to be a season-ending mistake.  To help you avoid some potential Week 14 pitfalls (full season or daily), here's a few players I expect to look better/worse than usual on Sunday/Monday.

[Yahoo Daily Fantasy: $10 could win you $30K in our $300K contest for Week 14]

RB - Theo Riddick, Det at StL ($12) - I love Riddick in a "Flex flyer" kind of way this week, especially in leagues that offer any kind of PPR compensation. Riddick leads all running backs in receptions (60), and ranks No. 19 in overall PPR scoring at the RB position. And he's facing a Rams defense that has been burnt often by RBs in the passing game - third-most receiving yards (672) allowed to running backs. Riddick had 10 catches for 53 yards and a TD against another blitz-heavy NFC West opponent (Arizona) back in Week 5. He could post a similar line this week.
