  • Fantasy Rookie Rundown '16: Don't fear the unknown on Elliott, others

Brad Evans at Roto Arcade 2 days ago

Disclaimer: Most of this piece originally ran on April 30. Due to the every-changing fantasy landscape, however, it has been spruced up to reflect the latest rookie trends and observations.

The joy of newness is interwoven into the consciousness of all Americans. We love that new car smell, fresh pair of Jordans feel and refreshing swig off a just cracked beer.

It’s so good when it hits the lips.

When it comes to fantasy football, this psychology permeates into the typical owner’s mindset.

For many, high-profiled, much-hyped rookies are seducing, the sirens of the virtual game. They posted obscene numbers at the college level, were drafted into favorable “good fit” situations and are destined to produce. That’s what eternal optimists, admittedly me included, often believe.

    Why?

  • Fantasy football mock draft, Rounds 4-6: Golden Tate, other WRs, in high demand

  • Preseason Week 2 Lames: Jones, White grossly overpriced fantasy options

Brad Evans at Roto Arcade 5 days ago

There’s a large contingent of football fans that staunchly believe preseason games are completely inconsequential. To these naysayers, they’re nothing more than an evaluation phase for head coaches looking to comprise the best 53-man roster possible. However, most fanatics would vehemently disagree. Exhibition action gives owners the opportunity to gain invaluable insight into potential sleepers and busts. In an attempt to decipher the meaningful from the meaningless, here are the top-five Lames from Preseason Week 2.

  • WR/TE Primer '16: On point, Keenan Allen, others, could lead catch pack

Brad Evans at Roto Arcade 8 days ago

WR/TE QUICK TIPS, TRENDS AND TAKES TO KNOW ENTERING THE SEASON

    • Over the past six seasons the bust rate of WR1s (Players drafted inside the position’s top-12 who finished outside the top-15) is 38.1 percent. Last year, Mike Evans, Randall Cobb and Alshon Jeffery had various injuries.

[Join a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for free and make 2016 your season]

    • The biggest positive gainer at the WR position over the past month is San Fran’s Bruce Ellington. Thanks to enormous buzz generated during OTAs and now training camp, his value has increased from an ADP of 181.1 to 153.2. Muy caliente!

    • On the downside, a bucket of ice has been thrown on once trusted WR2 Mike Wallace.  The Ravens receiving corps is a convoluted, indecipherable mess. That combined with Wallace’s failed conditioning test to start training camp triggered alarms. Since August his draft day price tag has dipped from 150.9 to 166.3. Rough.

Below are six pressing questions about WR/TE nearing the heart of draft season.

Brad – 1) Keenan Allen, 2) Antonio Brown, 3) Julio Jones, 4) A.J. Green, 5) Golden Tate, SS – Rishard Matthews, Rookie – Sterling Shepard

  • Three-Point Stance: Is Funchess over Benjamin crazy talk?

Brad Evans at Roto Arcade 8 days ago

Falling just short of collecting their first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history, the Carolina Panthers were a firestorm of fantasy fun last season. Cam Newton, Greg Olsen and Jonathan Stewart were starting lineup mainstays. Ted Ginn Jr. and Devin Funchess also surprised. In this edition of ‘The Stance,’ Brad Evans and Brandon Funston feast on some vinegar-based Carolina bbq.

Coming off a career year, Jonathan Stewart, in some circles, isn’t getting the love he deserves. At his 77.2 (RB28) ADP. Is the veteran plow OVERVALUED, UNDERVALUED or PROPERLY VALUED?

The RB3 price tag is appropriate. He’s a useful bench back who should be plugged in when the matchup is favorable. However, give me Melvin Gordon, Rashad Jennings or Chris Ivory, rushers going some 1-3 rounds after J-Stew, instead.

Brad – FUNCHESS, by the length of his 6-foot-4 frame. The ADP disparity alone says the Michigan product is the hands down winner.

  • Three-Point Stance: What to realistically expect from Michael Thomas

Brad Evans at Roto Arcade 9 days ago

Jazz, craziness on Bourbon Street, Drew Brees 30-TD seasons – the more things change, the more they stay the same in New Orleans. In this edition of ‘The Stance,’ Brad Evans and Dalton Del Don bare it all and throw beads at the Saints’ most intriguing fantasy commodities.

[Yahoo Fantasy Football is open for the 2016 season. Sign up now!]

Climbing rookie wide receiver Michael Thomas was heavenly in his preseason debut catching four balls for 64 yards. A deafening buzz has surrounded the youngster since he was selected with the 47th overall pick in last May’s NFL Draft. BELIEVE or MAKE BELIEVE: Thomas greatly outperforms his 106.5 ADP (WR50), hauls in at least six touchdowns and tucks inside the WR top-40 in Year 1.

There’s some debate Mark Ingram doesn’t deserve an RB1 designation in 12-team leagues despite finishing No. 8 at the position in fantasy points per game. Is it SMART or SILLY to shell out a top-30 pick (26.4 ADP, RB9) for the Saints plowshare?

  • RB Primer 2016: Heavy debate on fantasy's top rushing dog

Brad Evans at Roto Arcade 10 days ago

FIRING BULLETS – RB QUICK TIPS, TRENDS AND TAKES TO KNOW ENTERING THE SEASON

    • Predictable considering physical demands, the bust rate for RB1s (Rushers drafted inside RB top-12 tha finished outside top-15) over the past six seasons is 45.2 percent (58 percent in ’15), the highest at any position in fantasy football.

    • Arian Foster is far and away the fastest rising RB in drafts according to average draft position (ADP) values tracked at Player Profiler. His value has climbed from 92.6 to 70.4 since August 1.

[Join a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for free and make 2016 your season]

    • On the flip side, outside Jay Ajayi, Seattle rookie C.J. Prosise has seen the biggest value decline. He’s slipped behind Thomas Rawls, Christine Michael and Alex Collins on the ‘Hawks depth chart due to ongoing injuries and critical missed time. Over the past 30 days his ADP has fattened from 115.7 to 134.6.

Below are five pressing questions about RB nearing the heart of draft season.

The fanalyst community is very divided on what RB should fall first off draft boards. Who ya got, DAVID JOHNSON, ZEKE ELLIOTT, TODD GURLEY or ADRIAN PETERSON?

  • Three-Point Stance: Is Doug Martin a smart or silly investment?

Brad Evans at Roto Arcade 11 days ago

Though Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson sank into Davey Jones’ locker, Jameis Winston and a resurgent Doug Martin were hidden gems last season on Treasure Island. In this edition of ‘The Stance,’ Brad Evans and Brandon Funston draw their scabbards and swashbuckle through pressing questions tied to Tampa.

[Yahoo Fantasy Football is open for the 2016 season. Sign up now!]

The Muscle Hamster, Doug Martin, spun the wheel last season, bouncing back after an unmemorable 2014. Despite the rebound, many have expressed hesitancy about another top-15 campaign. Will the rusher continue to BOOM or be closer to a BUST at his current 32.3 (RB12) ADP?

Though a towering specimen and equipped with a pair of pogo sticks, Mike Evans inexplicably managed just three touchdowns in 2015. OVER or UNDER 9.5 end-zone spikes for the wide receiver this year?

Bull rush Brad @YahooNoise and Brandon @1befunon Twitter.
