    • Heat sign Juwan Howard

The Miami Heat signed 40 year-old forward Juwan Howard to a 10-day contract.

Juwan Howard could return to the Miami Heat. (Getty)After playing the past two years with the Heat, Howard had remained unsigned until Saturday. He has stayed in shape and has been working out throughout the season.

The Heat created a roster spot at the trade deadline, sending Dexter Pittman to the Memphis Grizzlies for a trade exception.

Howard had been a respected leader on the Heat and was popular with teammates, coaches and management. He played sparingly in three Miami playoff victories on the way to his first championship ring in 2012.

Howard's greater role for the Heat came off the floor, where he was a trusted steward in the locker room. During the Heat's conference semifinal series victory over Indiana, Howard played the part of enforcer with Indiana Pacers forward Lance Stephenson. After Stephenson made the choke sign at LeBron James in a game, Howard later confronted him.

In 1,201 career games over 18 seasons, Howard has averaged 13.4

    • Delonte West to report to D-League

With NBA teams uneasy about taking a risk on his past behavioral issues, free-agent guard Delonte West intends to report to the Texas Legends of the Development League on Monday, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

Delonte West spent last season with the Mavericks. (USA Today Sports)West, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, had planned to join the Legends earlier in February, but never arrived. Since coming to realize the D-League is likely his only avenue back into the NBA, West has reconsidered, a source said.

Texas leaves Sunday for a two-game road trip to Los Angeles and Bakersfield, and West intends to arrive in Texas on Monday and join the team when it returns to Frisco, a Dallas suburb, on Thursday, a source said.

    • Sacramento has 'shot' to keep Kings after putting together bid to challenge Seattle group

The proposed bid of 24-Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov and billionaire Ron Burkle to purchase the Sacramento Kings and construct a downtown arena has a chance to challenge a Seattle ownership's group to move the franchise.

Kevin Johnson has helped put together a bid to try to keep the Kings in Sacramento. (AP)Mastrov and the local investors' bid is "slightly lower," than the $341 million that the Chris Hansen-Steve Ballmer group has agreed to pay for the available 65 percent of the Kings, a high-level source involved in the talks told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday night.

"They have a shot," the source said. "It's still a long shot, but the bid will be close enough to cause real debate."

With a Friday deadline for submitting a counter bid to the NBA to attempt to keep the Kings from moving, Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson unveiled Mastrov as the principal investor in the city's plan to foil the Maloof family's signed agreement to sell to the Seattle group.

Burkle and the city have agreed on a deal to construct a new arena in the city's downtown. Johnson recruited

D.J. White played for the Bobcats last season. (AP)White will likely be activated for the Celtics' Friday game against Golden State.

    • Thunder reach deal to sign Derek Fisher

The Oklahoma City Thunder have reached agreement to sign veteran guard Derek Fisher for the remainder of the season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Fisher arrived in Oklahoma City Sunday night and will sign his contract on Monday.

Derek Fisher hasn't played since injuring his knee with the Mavericks in December. (Getty Images)Fisher, 38, signed with the Thunder late last season and helped Oklahoma City make its push to the NBA Finals. He joined the Dallas Mavericks early this season and played nine games in December before suffering a knee injury. He asked the Mavericks to release him, so he could spend more time with his family.

    • Knicks need to give Amar'e Stoudemire bigger role for title chase

NEW YORK – Sometimes, it's still easy to forget Amar'e Stoudemire walked in here and validated the migration of star talent to Madison Square Garden. New York had missed on LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, but yet there was Stoudemire standing with an admirable defiance, cap askew, declaring, "The Knicks are back."

Together, they were a high-risk, high-reward partnership, his knees forever threatening an expiration date that could come sooner than the end of his five-year, $100 million contract. As a bridge of talent to these Knicks, Stoudemire played the part of a franchise player until Carmelo Anthony forced his way to New York.

With this roster, the Knicks don't need Stoudemire to be his old Phoenix Suns self – merely the more polished, more mature player with which he's transformed himself. When the Knicks needed to end a four-game losing streak on Sunday, Stoudemire delivered his best performance of the season – 22 points and one missed shot – in a 99-94 victory over the

    • Bucks acquire J.J. Redick from Magic

With the prospect of losing guard J.J. Redick to free agency this summer the Orlando Magic traded him to the Milwaukee Bucks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Bucks sent the Magic Doron Lamb, Tobias Harris and Beno Udrih for Redick. Gustavo Ayon and Ish Smith were sent to Milwaukee as part of the deal for Redick.

The Magic also traded forward Josh McRoberts to the Charlotte Bobcats for forward Hakim Warrick, a league source told Y! Sports' Marc Spears.

The Bucks have a serious interest in re-signing Redick to a contract this summer. With an increased role this season, Redick has averaged a career-high 15.1 points.

Redick, 28, was a popular player for the Magic, who drafted him 11th overall in 2006 after a storied career at Duke. After entering the NBA as strictly a shooter, Redick has developed into a respected all-around player and will be a significant commodity on the free-agent market this summer.

    • Wizards trade Jordan Crawford to Celtics

The Washington Wizards traded guard Jordan Crawford to the Boston Celtics for the expiring contracts of Leandro Barbosa and Jason Collins, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

With the emergence of first-round pick Bradley Beal as Washington's starting shooting guard, Crawford's role diminished and his desire was to be moved elsewhere.

In parts of three seasons with the Wizards, Crawford averaged 14.5 points. This season, Crawford was averaging 13.2 points and 3.7 assists.

Crawford was the 27th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, and was traded from the Nets to the Atlanta Hawks for his rookie season.

Barbosa, who is making the league minimum $1.2 million, is out for the season after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament.

    • Sources: Rockets make deals with Suns, Kings; Morris twins reunited in Phoenix

The Houston Rockets acquired Sacramento's Thomas Robinson, the fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft, in a deal on Wednesday night, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Rockets sent Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas and Cole Aldrich to the Kings. In a separate deal, the Rockets sent Marcus Morris to the Phoenix Suns for a 2013 second-round draft pick. That deal reunites Morris with his twin brother, Markieff.  Thomas Robinson (USA Today Sports)

The Kings give up Robinson, the power forward out of Kansas, Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt, sources said.

Marcus and Markieff played together at Kansas and were chosen back-to-back with the 13th and 14th picks of the 2011 draft.

Marcus started 17 games for the Rockets this season, averaging 8.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 21 minutes a game.

Robinson is off to a slow start in the NBA. In 51 games off the bench, he averaged 4.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in nearly 16 minutes per game. Nevertheless, he's still considered to hold considerable potential as a power forward.
