Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports 12 hrs ago

Free-agent guard Kendall Marshall has agreed to a multiyear contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The deal includes a fully guaranteed salary for the 2015-16 season, sources said.

Marshall has been rehabilitating a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Chapel Hill, N.C., over the past few months and worked out this past week for the 76ers in Philadelphia. Marshall is expected to return sometime in the first half of the upcoming season, league sources said.

Marshall, 24, tore his ACL on Jan. 15 with the Milwaukee Bucks and underwent surgery in early February, ending what had been a promising start to the season for him. Marshall had become an important part of Milwaukee's rapid ascent in the Eastern Conference, playing productive minutes behind Brandon Knight at point guard.

In Marshall's one full season in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2013-14, he averaged 30 minutes a game and was second in the NBA to the Clippers' Chris Paul in assists per game (8.8) and fifth overall in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Free-agent guard Landry Fields underwent surgery for a hip labral tear and will be out five months, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

Fields, 27, played an increasingly diminished role with the Toronto Raptors over parts of the past three seasons, despite two productive years upon entering the NBA with the New York Knicks in 2010-11.

In five NBA seasons, Fields, who is 6-foot-7, has averaged 6.8 points and 4.3 rebounds. He was the 39th overall pick by New York out of Stanford in 2010.

  • Sources: Euro guard Marcelo Huertas agrees to one-year deal with Lakers

Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports 4 days ago

Free-agent guard Marcelo Huertas – one of the Euroleague’s most accomplished playmakers – has agreed to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Huertas, 32, could give the Lakers an experienced pick-and-roll point guard to complement the development of No. 2 overall pick D’Angelo Russell.

Huertas would be competing in a backcourt that also includes Jordan Clarkson, Lou Williams and star Kobe Bryant.

Huertas has played six seasons in the Spanish ACB for Barcelona, where he’s led Barca to three consecutive Euroleague Final Four appearances. He averaged 7.4 points and nearly five assists for Barcelona this season. Huertas is a career 87 percent free-throw shooter.

Huertas has been Brazil’s point guard in numerous Olympic Games, World Championships and FIBA America tournaments. He averaged 11 points and five assists for Brazil in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

“I think that part is harder to find now, because you mostly have guys who get all the way to the hole, or they’re three-point shooters. And if I’m open, and I can get my feet set, I’m going to make a lot of those kind of shots.”

  • Sources: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist finalizing contract extension with Hornets

Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports 11 days ago

Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is finalizing a four-year, $52 million contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The agreement will be finalized this week with a news conference to follow, league sources said.

As a member of the 2012 NBA draft class, Kidd-Gilchrist is eligible for a rookie extension prior to the start of the 2015-16 season.

Kidd-Gilchrist, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, has developed into a cornerstone player for the Hornets at small forward. With the extension, the Hornets and Kidd-Gilchrist will avoid him becoming a restricted free agent next summer.

Kidd-Gilchrist, 21, has dramatically improved his offensive game with a recreated jump shot. Already, he was one of coach Steve Clifford's most important defensive players. Kidd-Gilchrist averaged 10.9 points and 7.6 rebounds for Charlotte last season, his third in the league.

  • Sources: Lakers considering signing Metta World Peace

Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports 11 days ago

The Los Angeles Lakers are discussing the possibility of signing free agent forward Metta World Peace to a one-year contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

No deal has been agreed upon, but there have been talks between the Lakers and World Peace's representatives, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

There are varying degrees of interest within the Lakers organization about bringing him back to the franchise at 35 years old, although the idea has been met with enthusiasm from Lakers star Kobe Bryant, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

World Peace has been in the Lakers' practice facility this offseason playing against the team's players, including 2014 first-round pick Julius Randle, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

World Peace has been out of the NBA since the New York Knicks waived him during the 2013-14 season. He played last season in China and Italy.

The Lakers lack depth at the small forward position.

World Peace played four seasons with the Lakers from 2009-13 and was instrumental in them winning the 2010 championship. They amnestied World Peace after the 2012-13 season.

Withey has a strong chance to make the Jazz's opening-night roster, which currently includes 13 guaranteed contracts.

Withey's deal includes a team option in the second year, a league source told Yahoo.

Withey, 25, played his first two NBA seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he averaged three points and 2.3 rebounds.

After leaving Kansas, Withey was the 39th overall pick to the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2013 NBA draft. He was moved to New Orleans in a three-way deal that helped bring Robin Lopez to the Blazers.

Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports 21 days ago

The Phoenix Suns are finalizing a deal to hire Chris Jent as head coach of the franchise’s NBA Development League affiliate, the Bakersfield Jam, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Jent, 45, had been an assistant coach under Michael Malone with the Sacramento Kings for the past two years.

Jent in 2013 joined Malone as the top assistant coach in Sacramento, where he stayed until Malone’s ouster as head coach in December 2014.

Jent played briefly in the NBA, and served as the Orlando Magic’s interim head coach to finish the 2004-05 season and had a successful run as an assistant under Mike Brown with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2006-11, developing a strong working relationship with LeBron James.

Bakersfield’s previous coach, Nate Bjorkman, was promoted to a staff job with the Suns.

  • Sources: Refs union, NBA reach tentative agreement on new deal

Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports 27 days ago

The NBA and the National Basketball Referees Association have reached a tentative agreement on a new seven-year deal that will run through 2022, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The union’s 60-plus referee membership will meet in Chicago on Thursday to vote on final ratification of the contract, sources told Yahoo Sports.

The NBA and the NBRA opened talks with a year left on the existing collective bargaining agreement, and will replace the final season of the current five-year agreement with terms on a new deal, sources told Yahoo Sports. The referees' new deal will include substantial raises for referees and the staffing of the league’s replay center in Secaucus, N.J., with refs, sources said.

The NBA will be generating significantly more revenue with a new $24 billion television contract beginning in 2016.

  • Sources: NBPA filing grievance against Kings over voiding of Mbah a Moute contract

Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports 1 mth ago

The National Basketball Players Association is filing a grievance against the Sacramento Kings, challenging the legitimacy of the franchise’s voiding of free-agent forward Luc Mbah a Moute’s contract over an alleged failed medical physical, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The NBPA is planning to file the grievance to the NBA early next week, league sources said.

Mbah a Moute has been meeting with NBPA executive director Michele Roberts in Johannesburg this week, where Mbah a Moute, a Cameroon native, has been medically cleared to play for Team Africa against Team World in the first NBA exhibition game in Africa.

Mbah a Moute signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with Sacramento on July 14, and two days later had Kings officials inform him that concerns over his right shoulder had caused the franchise to void the deal, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Mbah a Moute’s representatives at Wasserman Media Group and NBPA officials, armed with independent medical examinations that produced playing clearances, are disputing the legitimacy of the Kings’ process and the findings to declare a failed physical, league sources said.
